New BaliBlog homepage layout

Nick and I have been going over a bunch of stuff the past 10 days and as you can see - we just made a change to the homepage. When we updated the look at feel in December 2004 - we forgot to move a bunch of handy category links and some of the best content got burried on the site. Sorry ’bout that. :-)
In the 2+ years that Nick has been here, he has written almost 2500 content pieces on BaliBlog. Wow - and over 6000+ comments. We are working on re-arranging it so it all makes a bit more sense. When I say makes more sense, I am saying it for basically 2 groups of people:

1) Folks that like to read the “blog” aspect of what Nick does…daily visitors to BaliBlog

2) Folks that are planning a trip to Bali - helping them get to the resources they need asap.

We want the site to kick arse for both groups of people. Sure, sometimes the groups overlap…but it is important of us to service both groups to keep BaliBlog growing. :-)
Cheers and keep the feedback coming - whatever way - in the comments or via email.

Hi there everyone. I have been a regular for as long as Nick has been there I think. I guess you always just adapt to any changes and in a while you forget how things were before. The Blog is a constant source of entertainment for me and instills a sense of reminiscing about holidays past and I always enjoy it immensely. By the way whatever happened to Mark Spark. He just disappeared. Love catching up with Barrie (been a bit quiet of late) and Tracey. Keep on doing what you do so well.

Thanks Di,

I hope the blog will seem easier to navigate and keep you with us until your next trip to Bali.

I like the site so much I’m downloading it to my Pocket PC to bring with me on my trip. Any idea how big the site is?

Hi

I am a single 35 yr old woman travelling to Bali in mid-June for 7 days on my own. Can you please give me some tips on where to stay, what to watch out for and even if you think it is safe for me to do so.

I would like to go to a nice hotel for 3-4 nights and then maybe stay a couple more in Ubud. I am not into nightclubbing at all, but would like to stay somewhere that I can safely walk or go to a restaurant at night on my own. I am pretty sure I do not want to stay in Kuta at all as I want to relax. Also, I would like to meet some people while I am there, but not the wild party type… any suggestions??

Sasha,

When you come to Bali you might consider staying at the Pelangi Hotel in Seminyak. The Pelangi is modern, affordable and the staff are very friendly. I recently had friends staying there who loved it. Located on the end on Jl. Dhyana Pura next to the beach

Alternatively you could go to the Amanda Resort, a very nice hotel in Kerobokam. This is a more quiet area but there are some suberb restaurants close by, as well as the beach anout 5 minutes walk.

I think you can walk around safely and check out Venue @ THe Moon and The Living Room restaurants.

A good way to get to Ubud is to take the Perama bus from lower Jl. Legian in Kuta. Get your front desk staff to check the schedule when you arrive. Maybe they can give you a ride down to Kuta also.

You will like Ubud and the surounding area. Very mellow, very artistically motivated. Have lunch at Casa Luna and morning coffee at Bali Buddha.

Hi Nick and Sean,

I’ve been travelling to Bali for the last five years and every year the trip is longer. Go figure. First it was five days, then it was five weeks. When I’m back here in the chilly Midwest (US), I love to read the blog to escape!

I’m writing because I want to come to Bali in the Fall (US Fall) and I want to let a house for up to three months…of course the first concern is what sort of visa I can get. After that, I would like to let a house, but I am completely lost as to how to do that from here in the US. The houses listed online are ridiculously priced!

I would like a house in Seminyak area (or Ubud area) 1-2 bedrooms, decent garden, decent kitchen, telephone line so I can connect to telkomsel’s internet in a a pinch “plunge pool” optional…USD$500/month.

I would love your advice on how to find such a place. I’m aiming to spend my 2-3 months there from mid-Septembre to mid-Novembre or Decembre.

Also any visa advice you have about staying longer than the standard 30 days would be helpful. And last, I would like to bring my dog with…

Please contact me at the honey…email.

Thanks in advance for any advice and help,

Nicky

Hello:
I understand that there is an art supply store in Ubud. (Windsor & Newton) does anyone know the telephone number or web site. I will be in Bali for 3 weeks painting and wondered if I should bring ALL my materials with me-or just purchase some or everything there.
PS, this is a great site. Great work Nick!
I have been reading it daily, wonderful information.
Thanks in advance for any advise or tips.
