Where do you live? (area of Bali and/or Indonesia): I’m from a village south of Singaraja, but live in Legian, near Kuta.

What did you do in your village?: My mother and father are rice farmers and I used to help them.

Did you enjoy the work?: Yes, but its very hard. The sun is very strong and it gets hot in the paddy field. My arms become black from the sun.

What else do you remember from working in the paddy field? There are many leaches which are hard to remove so I got my father to remove them for me. Also I used to collect crops for food and there are sometimes leaches in them too.

You used to grow all your own food?: Yes, these are also many fruits growing, like mango, papaya.

What’s your favourite?: Durian.

What is your job? How long have you worked there?: I’m a waitress at Taman Legian restaurant on Jalan Double Six. I’ve been here for 1 ½ years.

Have you ever left Indonesia? If so, where? If not, would you like to?: No. I’d like to visit New Zealand.

What do you like about tourists?: They are clever and have good jobs.

What do you dislike about tourists?: Sometimes they drink too much and get drunk.

How did the bombing of the Sari Club and its after-effects affect your job and life?: At my job a little no good. Not many tourists come to Bali.

What things have changed for you?: I don’t understand.

What is your favorite part of Bali?: Many places in Bali are good. I like Tanah Lot for the beach and the temple.

What is your least favorite part of Bali?: Lovina because once I was there and the beach was dirty.

What advice would you like to pass on to folks that are coming to Bali soon?: Hotels are cheap and food too.

Any other thoughts that you might like to pass on to the world?: I think the world is good because the president of Iraq is gone and he’s no good. People in Indonesia are angry that America is in Iraq.
