Changes to Layout and other stuff: Your opinion please

G’Day BaliBlog Folks…my name is Sean Keener - I am Nick’s Colleague (who can’t spel) from BootsnAll and I have a few notes/thoughts to share.

I am in Bali for 10 days and Nick and I are refining the layout and a few things on BaliBlog and we’d love your help/suggestions…be brutal we can take it.

1) We added a drop down menu on each individual archive page and each category page so that you can browse through the archives via month or category more easily - see look just to the right and you’ll see…

2) We are working on a new layout for the homepage to bring the blog element more to the front…please leave any ideas - things you love or hate about BaliBlog in the comments below this post. We are taking everything into consideration. If you don’t want your opinions to the public - email to nick at baliblog dot com.

3) Party Tonight - I bought 6 Cuban Cigars - Ebong - one of them is for you. Looking forward to catching up. Barrie - you want one? If so, 3 are left. Palu? Hillis? Anyone - Bueller?

4) Frommer’s linked to Nick’s story about Gunung Agung in East Bali. See thge very bottom of article for link to BaliBlog.

hello sean, i reckon this nick o`neill has to be given a big wage rise, now that he has a wife and a baby on the way. and to say he is doing a top job is not nearly enough. as well as being a top host on the baliblog website, here he is putting his phone number on the website and inviting us all, total strangers, but fellow travellers, to a barbeque at his home, sorry to say i wont be able to make it this time around. i hope to be in bali in august.please give nick a pat on the back, and thank him for the invite. and good luck with wayan tonight, make sure we get some photos.

Hi Sean,

Thanks for the new search improvements and asking for input.

Since the switch to the new layout in January, the “Remember Me” feature doesn’t seem to stick. I always have to type it in. I seem to remember getting site certificate errors /expiry message (or something like that)

Nick’s pix are fantastic and a very coveted feature of the blog that greatly enhances the site. Nick some times puts pix “in line” with the text, but usually as a link. Putting it “in line” with the text offers the reader much better uninterrupted continuity, without having to click and close each window. (sorry, yeah, I know, more work for Nick) but me thinks it makes it look much richer, like a magazine, and a better packaged vehicle.

Nit picky request probably; so ignore it if it generates too many groans from anyone. Baliblog is an every day part of life. Keep up the great work!!

Links to the archives with drop-downs is a good idea. I’d use that if planning a Bali trip.

As with Canucki Chris, the “remember me” doesn’t remember for me also.

Pictures grab my attention. Anything to make it easier is good.

And this is a consistently informative and eye-pleasing blog.

re: your improvements -

first and foremost, you need to route:

http://baliblog.com

to the same virtual host as:

http://www.baliblog.com

right now it points to a different site.

Nick u beauty! finding this site has been an absolute godsend. Can I pick ur brain please.

Im from the South coast of England - painfully small town - u know the score! have been travelling on/off since I was 19 (25 now)and still loving it, I just got back from yr in oz and Nz and saving up 4 next stint. Sadly I was over in Bali when the bomb went off, we were sorting some wholesale orders for a furniture business which i ran 4 my ex partner, anyway so lucky as missed it by minutes as we had a snooze b4 heading to Sari that night, we got delayed getting ready etc. I decided to shave my legs!!! Scariest and luckiest night of our lives, our room door imploded! (was staying at Satriya Cottages on poppies - u probably know it - beautiful!) after realising what was happening, feelings of utter disbelief, shock ,panic, despair and helplessness ensued. We tried to help as much as we could, then headed back to tour families in the uk a couple of wks later,

I have longed to return to Bali since this happened but feel a bit uneasy, how is tourism and trade really doing out there?? Whats the atmosphere like and general consensus of the locals - I have had mixed reports. I am hoping to come over Sept time, but am anxious to return since the bomb, I maybe travelling alone too, so would really appreciate any thoughts or comments from you. Sorry this was a bit long and the standard of english crap but tired after working till silly ‘o’ clock this wk.

Thanks

Kind regards, Elly
