Interview with waitress at Blue Ocean in Legian Bali

Blue Ocean bar on Blue Ocean beach at the of Jl. Double Six, has been around for years. Facing the ocean, you can sit comfortably under a shade and enjoy decent food and a cold Bintang, or Storm beer. I often go there with my typing machine and knock out a few articles. Recently I took my electric chewing gum with me and shocked half the staff. When their pulses got back to normal I did a short interview with one of the waitresses.

As with many restaurants, Blue Ocean has been affected by the October Bombing and the subsequent drop in tourism. But people remain in good spirits hopeful things will pick up. Blue Ocean is a great place to catch a cold afternoon beer in Bali.

Do you know of anyone who is interested in opening up a bar and name it Chu Kee My ?

With a name like mine, it will be an instant hit, especially with the Dutch tourists.

i am in mid 30′s and thinking of holiday surfing for one month, i dont like traffic, or rip offs i prefer genuine experience. I like nice place to stay close to major shops and surf only smaller waves 2-6 feet. I dont want to bring anything with me from australia. i wanted to go in january, is that a bad time for surf? i want place where it is easy access to reef break, point or similar i have not surfed for 15 years. I wanted to go out every day and maybe there are people to “tow” you back behind break to save paddling. Is there such a place in bali or just a pipe dream.

You’re not Balinese, so it’s impossible for you to have a genuine experience. Just drink up, eat up, do some surfing, buy your trinkets, and do some serious whoring.

surfing in january due to the trade winds will be on the nusa dua sanur side, there are all reefs breaks, wave height depends on swell but can get big and powerful and when it is you can find breaks all the way up the coast, but head height is resonably average, plenty of quiet places to stay on that side of the island although the reefs are long paddles out, never seen any tows but sure it’s possible with a few rupiah but can imagin a jet ski in the break would piss everyone else off no end, you lazy ****

Came across your interview with the Blue Ocean waitress quite by accident and it really made me smile….. well grin in fact! I have had the pleasure of being served by this particular waitress, Made, on many occasions over the past few years, on my frequent trips to Bali. She has a special place in my travel memories as being the slowest, least informed employee at Blue Ocean and infact at any restaurant that I have ever visited. Having said that she is part of the ‘charm’ of Blue Ocean despite its recent facelist and subsequent price hike. Still has to be the best spot in the world to enjoy a spot of people watching and a bintang.
