It was only a short while ago that SBY decided along with the Attorney General not to prosecute Suharto and terminate the prosecution of graft charges against the former, invalid president. But it seems a go-getting judge ordered the AGO to reopen the case.

Indonesian President SBY has dropped plans to pardon former President Suharto. SBY appointed State Secretary Yusril Ihza Mahendra, to look into Suharto’s history of wealth building and decide if charges should be brought.

Indonesian President SBY has stopped the investigation of former president Suharto. The 30 year old dictator is in hospital with intestinal problems and his age, plus closeness to high ranking members of the government mean he was always likely to get a pardon.

Indonesian President SBY has a massive task fighting corruption. Part of the problem is that corruption was / is so endemic in Indonesia that so many high ranking people were / are involved. If you lock up everyone, you have no one left to work with.

Like history revisited, a couple of old buddies got to rub up against each other yesterday. Lee Kuan Yew, who led Singapore to become the most successful economy in SE Asia, met up with his old playmate Suharto, who is still alive and kicking in Jakarta.
