Bali police not concerned about terror warning

By Nick | July 10th, 2007 | 6 Comments »

Police in Bali have not uncovered any evidence that a terror event is about to happen. Australia has new travel warning against Indonesia, stating a terror event is likely. Those of us who live here usually don’t pay much attention. Tourism is rebounding strongly so the economy is on a bit of a roll. [...]

Traffic roadblocks in Kuta Bali

By Nick | February 23rd, 2007 | Add a Comment »

Back in 2003 when I moved to Bali, there seemed to be a police roadblock every few days. No big deal if your paperwork is in order, but some people have reason to sweat. If you’ve forgotten your license, borrowed your mate’s bike without the registration, or have something wrong with the bike, such as [...]

Aussie woman in hot water with Bali drug cops

By Nick | November 21st, 2006 | 2 Comments »

Tonight’s Bali news mentions another Australian, who has been caught ( or entrapped), by the Balinese police for drug possession. Michelle Dawn Condon, from Melbourne, was caught near the Poppies Lane area in Kuta, with a tiny amount of methamphetamine. Sounds like a set-up to me.

When I first came to Bali in 2003, cops were pulling people over like crazy on the road. Their favourite hangouts were 4 lane roads, giving them enough space to use 1 lane for stopping people, while not blocking the whole road.

Don't you love it when the Indonesian police make a big drug bust and then turn around red-faced because it was only a minor offence.

Police Caught Possessing Drugs: Jakarta, Indonesia

Who said there was no corruption in Indonesia and who said that the police are squeaky clean&#63. The President of Indonesia, SBY, has always said there was minimal corruption and what there was he intended to clean up. Bring on the big brooms!.

Women in Uniform: Indonesia

When I was a nipper my mum always said that when I was out anywhere and needed help then I was to ask a policeman. I can remember seeing the first female police officer 'on the beat' and wondering why she wasn't at home cooking dinner. Give me a break, I was a kid then!.
