Water sports can be hazardous in Bali

This last week in Bali 2 tourists died while enjoying water sports. The first was a 40 year old Australian who was rescued from drowning on Kuta beach. He was hit by large waves while swimming, and though revived by life guards, passed away at BIMC in Kuta.

I can recall several weeks ago reporting about the installation of Tsunami Warning System already being installed on the beaches in Kuta in anticipation of any future earthquakes and tsunami waves. Bali will install with six disaster warning towers.

Nusa Dua was one place I had never had a yearning to visit and probably because I dislike ostentatiousness. When I went there with Candika I found the best way is to drive straight through it and up to the old port area.

Indonesia is the world's second largest crude palm oil producer after Malaysia. Palm oil is one of the main export commodities of Indonesia with output reaching 14.7 million tons last year. It was only fitting then that a conference on the subject be held in the country.


 

Lindsay Davenport to defend title in Bali

Tennis player Lindsay Davenport will defend her title at he Wismilak tennis tournament in September. The American player won last year and was featured in local newspapers and magazines. The October bombing followed shortly after, and Lindsay said she was shocked, as she stayed at the Four Seasons and ran past Menega Cafe every morning.

The D8 ( Developing conference involving 8 developing Muslim countries, in Nusa Dua, has ended. Nations participating were Iran, Indonesia, Egypt, Nigeria, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Turkey and Pakistan. D 8 meeting starts in Nusa Dua Bali

The D8 (Developing confernce has begun in Nusa Dua, at the Westin resort. Indonesian President SBY opened the meeting with a welcoming speech, and assumed leadership of the conference. According to Antara News, security was tight, with vehicles being stopped 200 meters away from the hotel.
