In Lombok people speak Bahasa Indonesia like the Balinese and also have their own Sasak language. The Sasak language is spoken by the Sasak ethnic group, which make up the majority of the population. It is closely related to the languages of Bali and Sumbawa.

Gunung Rinjani claims 7 lives

Seven Indonesia hikers have been found dead on the slopes of Gunung Rinjani, the massive volcanic peak on the island of Lombok. According to reports the group decided to hike the mountain in bad weather conditions, without camping equipment or enough food. Here’s more from the Jakarta Post.

There is a law in Indonesia that states you cannot build within 50 meters of the high tide line, at coastal areas. Everyone does of course, thinking that the local government would never pull them up for it. On Gili Trawangan, the local government is doing just that, threatening to pull down beachfront businesses!
