Galungan is in progress in Bali and chatting with staff at Cafe Seminyak, I heard that some of them were able to go home to their village yesterday, some today. Sitting here in an internet cafe in Seminyak, the staff are all in traditional outfits.

Galungan is the most important ceremony on the Balinese calendar. Most Balinese people get to go home to their village, to participate in family ceremonies. This morning, I even got an sms from a Balinese friend wishing me health and happiness.

Galungan is the most important ceremony of the year (210 day lunar cycle), for Balinese people. Always on a wednesday, Galungan marks the time when ancestors return to Earth, and are celebrated with ceremony, dance and feasting.
