Two Trapped in a Bunker: Yogyakarta, Central Java, Indonesia

Not that I am claustrophobic but I would surely hate to be trapped in a concrete bunker on the slopes of a volcano already spewing hot ask and lava. According to reports from Yogyakarta, rescue workers were digging through volcanic debris yesterday to reach two people trapped in an underground emergency shelter.

According to an Australian professor, Mt. Merapi could be ready for an eruption. Initially authorities were saying the earthquake, south of Yogya, was unrelated to the situation at Mt. Merapi. However, professor Edward Bryant, a geologist specializing in natural hazards at Wollongong University in New South Wales, thinks they are.

Local people living around the slopes of Mt. Merapi in Central Java, took part in a ceremony to apease the mountain. Villagers hiked up the mountain with ceremonial food, to ask for divine protection against an eruption.

Mt. Merapi in Central Java keeps threatening to blows its top. Residents are more concerned with their neighbors than the volcano. Indonesia has a problem with respect for the rule of law. Stealing and lying about it, are very prevalent in this country.

As expected, Mt Merapi in Central Java has started to erupt. On Monday Merapi spewed hot ash and smoke, the ash covering fields 10km from the base.

The likely hood is it will erupt and locals who live in the surrounding areas are doing what they think is appropriate.
