Pasir Putih beach: East Bali

By Nick | November 10th, 2006 | 5 Comments »

Of all the beaches in Bali, the one that fullfills the vision of a tropical beach the best, is Pasir Putih in East Bali. Guide books are starting to mention it, but in 2003, when I first visited, there were virtually no other tourists.

Touring East Bali

Walking around Kuta, you will see hundreds of places offering day trips. Virtually every hotel has a tour counter, offering the same thing. If you want to get out for the day, its okay I suppose, but you will not experience what East Bali has to offer on a day trip.

Amlapura: Why visit?

By Nick | November 8th, 2006 | 1 Comment »

Every time I’ve visited Amlapura I’ve got good vibes. maybe its just that being in East Bali gives good vibes, I don’t know, but I find Amlapura to be a fairly clean, typical Balinese town, with the usual streetside shops selling pots, pans, fans and stuff most tourists wouldn’t touch.

Most visitors to Bali will not visit Amlapura, firstly because it is in East Bali and secondly because nothing draws them.

Nightlife in Candi Dasa

By Nick | October 22nd, 2006 | 5 Comments »

Candi Dasa has limited nightlife. There is one bar, I can’t remember the name of it, but its easy to find. It has live reggae music and is located at the far north end of the long strip of places.

Tenganan Dauh Tukad

Tenganan Dauh Tukad is the watered down version of Tenganan proper. People were friendly, but I was escorted to the ‘donation booth‘ after arriving. I gave 10,000rp, take it or shake it. Locals were sporting traditional clothing, because of the birth of the new temple.

My guest house, Flamboyant, is located 30 meters from the entrance to the road to Tengenan. Riding up to Tengenan from the main road takes about 10 minutes and is scenic for the first half, the strong light and greens of the palm trees, next to the deep blue of the sky.
