The Lombok Ferry from Padangbai
By Nick | May 30th, 2007 |Padangbai in East Bali is the traditional route to Lombok. Its ferries are large and leave every hour around the clock, allowing motorbikes cars and trucks. For those staying in the Kuta area, take the Bypass towards Sanur, hanging a right-left onto the Kusamba Bypass along the coast. This section of coastal road is complete [...]

Pasir Putih Beach East Bali
By Nick | December 30th, 2006 |Everyone is looking for the ‘hidden beach’, includung myself today. Driving along the road from Candi Dasa towards Amlapura, we shot through the village of Perasi and past the tiny entrance to the track that leads to Pasir Putih beach. Pulling a U’y, I foudn the entrance and warned Toby and Ika about the rocky [...]
Straight shot to Candi Dasa in East Bali
By Nick | December 30th, 2006 |My friend Toby is out here in Bali from Oregon. I’m pretty much his tour guide (my bill comes later!) and with that in mind chose where we went. Having Ika & Jevon along, meant our range of options was somewhat limited. I don’t want to spend a ton on accommodation, Toby wants and AC [...]
Snorkeling in Candi Dasa in East Bali

Charlie Sellers’ view of Padangbai Bali
By Nick | November 16th, 2006 |Padangbai is a small fishing village in East Bali. I first ent in 1993, when it was teeming with backpackers and divers. Now its a backwater, with more sarong vendors than tourists. Still there are 3 white sand beaches, in Padangbai that might take your fancy. Back in 2004, Charlie Sellers visited Padangbai and gave [...]
Pasir Putih beach: East Bali
By Nick | November 10th, 2006 |Of all the beaches in Bali, the one that fullfills the vision of a tropical beach the best, is Pasir Putih in East Bali. Guide books are starting to mention it, but in 2003, when I first visited, there were virtually no other tourists.
Touring East Bali
By Nick | November 8th, 2006 |Walking around Kuta, you will see hundreds of places offering day trips. Virtually every hotel has a tour counter, offering the same thing. If you want to get out for the day, its okay I suppose, but you will not experience what East Bali has to offer on a day trip.
Amlapura: Why visit?
By Nick | November 8th, 2006 |Every time I’ve visited Amlapura I’ve got good vibes. maybe its just that being in East Bali gives good vibes, I don’t know, but I find Amlapura to be a fairly clean, typical Balinese town, with the usual streetside shops selling pots, pans, fans and stuff most tourists wouldn’t touch.
