Whenever I get a chance to get over to the island of Bali there are a few favourite places that I generally visit in the first few days to imbibe in some excellent cuisine. Kafe Batan Waru is one of them and so is Plengkung, both in Tuban. However, as a great devourer of seafood I inevitably end up going down to Jimbaran Bay for a seafood feast. The place has changed dramatically compared to the first time I went there when people used to sit on the beach in front of an open fire whilst a Balinese guy would grill the delights of the ocean as your mouth watered. Now along the length of the beachfront there is a plethora of restaurants and warungs each serving grilled seafood of numerous quality and style. Running from Kedonganan in the north to Jalan Bukit Permai in the south, diners are spoilt for choice with over fifty places.

Personally, I prefer the smaller places in the Kedonganan area as to the more up-market places. Why? Simply because they are owners friendlier, the food seemingly fresher and most of all the prices reasonable and you can bargain for your dinner! Everybody has their favourite place in Jimbaran but for me Roma’s Warung and Dongan are fabulous.

“Whenever I get a chance to get over to the island of Bali”
I admit…haven’t been on this site for a long time but last time I was here it was written by Nick who was living in Bali.
Used to find it interesting to read about his days in Bali and about his wife and son.
Where is he now? And who is the new blogger?
Dewi,
Nick no longer does this site as you have noticed. No, I don’t know where he is or where to get in contact with him. Secondly, I am assuming you are in Bali, so, get hold of a copy of this month’s Bali Advertiser and you will see the interview of me under the ‘Siapa’ section.
Not in Bali yet..11 days to go :o)
Hi Nick.I would like to put comment on your article,”Pantomime meets tradition” but there is no space to put it in.there is some mistaken in culture understanding or perhaps mistranslation on it. Here is some perspective of how to comparing the different..In western culture most girls are ashame to be a virgin BUT most of balinese girls are pride with their virginity. But the thing is most balinese men are not as good as they were before.most men/boys are try so hard just to havig sex with their girlfriend and sometime took hours and also you can consider it as almost rape.and usually after everything done the girl cry at the bed because she just realise that she just loosing her virginity.sorry to put my comment on wrong article…BUT honestly i really like your article.WELL DONE NICK
hi Barrie,
nice posting about seafood in Bali,
feeling homesick now
We went on a honeymoon trip to Bali, we stay in nusa dua. When we booked tour, I was taken aback by the very low price of the hotel, and I was afraid that he would disappoint me, but no, the hotel was amazing … very cozy, clean, spacious rooms .. beautiful garden with pond, and in it are teeming with “mad” fish, near which were stopped by the tourists to feed them with bread, a green area, and I would not call it a small, all matches hotel.. The people at the pool is not so much, and I will refute the rumors that have to get up at 7 am, to take a lounger on the beach, free lager can be found at any time. Guide services world without limite, we have not used, because had time to get acquainted with a woman who gave us the contacts of the local English speaking driver, he told me many interesting things, very cheerful, a wonderful man and a tour takes twice as cheaper.he give us various gifts and tell details, where to go, where good and reasonable prices. His name putra, since its well known, in case the need to leave his phone number: 081805338662 you will not regret it. In general, Bali is very beautiful and exotic place, there are very friendly people! entertainment very much, enough for all, both for youth and adults. We are pleased to be back there and I advise everyone to go there to fly … it’s unforgettable!
Hi, may I know where is this Roma’s Warung and Dongan? Which part of Jimbaran is that? I had looked through the map and found that Jimbaran is actually quite big. Thanks!
