Ubud is located roughly north of Kuta and is about 90 minutes away. Touted as an arts center the town of Ubud is ringed by other villages all specializing in different arts and crafts. Penestenan for example makes beaded purses and Petulu does wood carvings. If you are artistically inclined you will find Ubud to be a rich location. Dancers, sculptors and painters seem to be around every corner. Downtown Ubud rather compact and along Jl. Raya Ubud you will find some very good restaurants such as Arys Warung and Casa Luna.
Nightlife is minimal here and the town is quite after 10pm. Plenty of cheap guesthouses and also small boutique places scattered around. The scenery around Ubud is gentle rolling hills and rice fields, some which are right up to the rooms you are staying in. This aspect of Ubud is really well used and creates a peaceful atmosphere.
People looking for an arts / culture holiday rather than beach / partying will enjoy Ubud
