Ubud: Padang Tegal & Peliatan

Downtown Ubud can be divided into smaller areas, as can the area in greater Ubud. At the lower end of Jl Hanuman is Padang Tegal and Peliatan.

My guide book says” The village of Padang Tegal merges with the eastern boarders of central Ubud, so staying here means you’re rarely more than a 15 minute walk from Monkey Forest Rd, though you may be quite a hike from the marketplace. Its quieter than Monkey Forest Rd but has plenty of shops and restaurants. To the east of Padang Tegal, Peliatan has more of a village feel and its losmen tend to be more traditional.”

We have a guide to accommodation on Jl. Hanuman, the lower edge of which extends into Padang Tegal. At the bottom of Jl. Hanuman is the Perama bus office, where you will get dropped of if using that service from Sanur or Kuta. Just 50 meters further on is Warung Enak, the place that does the Rijtstaffel (rice table ) 18 dishes for 150,000rp. I have stayed in Jati Homestay and its as fine for 50,000rp a night. If you want to be close to downtown and feel like you you want close access to a Balinese family this can work. Getting around will mean walking or taxis. Jl. Raya Ubud is a 5 minute taxi ride, the Neka art gallery is 15 minutes. Having some kind of transport really helps.
