Legian is in the heart of budget family package land. Jl. Legian has handicraft shops, knock off clothes shops and a few decent restaurants.
One of the first restaurants I went to in Legian was Ryoshi, opposite McDonalds. In fact this article from Jan 7th 2003, 6 days after I arrived was taken at Ryoshi.
There are several Ryoshi’s, Legian, Kuta, Seminyak, Sanur, Gili Trawangan and others. The Legian one has outside seating and also inside AC seating. They have massive bottles of saki in the fridge and I fantasize about ordering one and finishing it with a good friend sometime.
Ryoshi is not the highest sushi place in Bali in terms of quality. It is however value for money. I order a sushi plate called a pisang, which means banana. It has a cross section of fish and rolls and cost 48,000rp. This and a cup of green tea might help me live 5 minutes longer. Together with a saucer of soy sauce and a wad of wasabi paste, the sushi is okay.
Here’s a tip. If you get soaked while shopping and feel like a drowned rat, pop into Ryoshi for a jug of warm saki. Its the bomb!!!
