Spy Bar Bali: A trend setting place

Seminyak’s Jl. Dhyana Pura is the center of the nightlife in this area. The first bar on the street was Santa Fe, which started years ago. In the last 3 years many fancy places have sprung up and one that really started a trend was Spy Bar. Black and red were the predominant colors and slick was the style. Employees all looked trendy and its open to the street design, combined with a lounge area at the front made Spy Bar the perfect place to see and be seen.

Drinks were not cheap, I once paid 50,000rp for a margarita, once. Arak was not served, as is the norm in high end places, its just doesn’t cost enough. Spy Bar used to have counter dancers and guest DJ’s from all over the world who would show up and create excitement.

Well Spy Bar is not around anymore, why is anybody’s guess. The minimalist design has definitely inspired other to follow though, including De Ja Vu on Blue Ocean beach. Dhyana Pura has had a few places close over the last year including Tu Bar, Space and Spy Bar. There are new places opening though and we are in an endless cycle of trial and error.
