South Bali: What is it all about?

South Bali is where everyone arrives from overseas and where 95% of all the tourists stay, some never venturing out of there resort, never mind out of the area.

My Rough Guide says "The triangle of mainly flat land that makes up the south is some of the most fertile in Bali, and also the most densely populated, with more than 1,000 people in every square km. Bali's administrative capital, Denpasar, is here, and so too are the island's major tourist resorts, which have sprung up along the spectacular white-sand beaches: at Kuta in the west, and Sanur and Nusa Dua in the east. Furthermore, the combination of large offshore reefs and a peculiarly shaped coastline have made this region a genuine surfer's paradise, with some of the most sought after breaks in the world."

I would agree with that assessment and say that for many people the sun and the beach (as well as partying) are what they think of when they imagine Bali. It's a strong combination.

Nick,

When you have a chance, can you write about Lovina?

Nick,
I’m a solo female traveller - going to be staying near Sanur from Oct3-9. I’m looking for ways to meet other solo travellers. Are there any places where travellers looking for more culture/local stuff hang out? I really want to avoid the more ‘touristy’ areas and upscale shopping……

Hee, hee, hee, hee, hee. LOL

Hi LilyPond,

To meet other travellers have a cheap taxi ride into Legian one afternoon about 5pm. [Make sure that the taxi meter is on!] Go to Sammy and Susie’s beach bar. This is an esky surrounded by a circle of plastic chairs on the sand. You can get a Bintang or Coke etc.

Tell your driver that you want Sammy and Susie [and not some other place that he may get a commission from]. They’re near to the Bali Mandira Hotel and the Legian surf club.

You will meet tourists from various places, probably mainly Australians, also maybe one or two expats. Introduce yourself and tell them what you are looking for. Whatever it is, someone will be able to help you.

I will be in Bali from the 5th Oct with my lady friend Emiko and we may be at S&S at the same time. In any event, you can say that Rex gave you the info. There will be people there who will know me, at least by name if not personally.

Hi Barrie,

Air Paradise ex Perth 1000 5th Oct ETA Bali 1330.

Unexpected trip at short notice. I recently broke a top front tooth and the one next to it needs repairing too. Dentist’s quote for two crowns AU$2554. Rudi at Bali Dental Clinic has quoted me less than AU$600 by email.

A logical reason to go to Bali, don’t you think?

Will you be there then?

Tony, there is something wrong with you mate, you should go do a CAT scan or something of that sort cause the problem is bound to be in your head. Let’s just hope it’s simply what we all suspect… a severe case of stupidity!

Tony,

It is obvious that you are lacking social skills especially around ladies. Thus, let me give you a little advice on how to behave around respectable ladies.

1. Don’t try to impress ladies with your coarse language. It won’t work. Immature People with serious inferioity complex talk like that - I am not saying that you are. Show your maturity by being more careful with your choice of words.

2. Be gentle and polite. Show more caring attitude towards others. Ladies like guys who are gentlemen and caring. If you are a little more polite with them, you probably will have an easier time.

3. Apply the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” policy around these ladies. These ladies don’t like to hear your whoring exploits. Most people believe that whoremongers are people with low self esteem or with serious psychological problems - I am not saying that you are. Besides, respectable ladies don’t like sleeping with guys who sleeps around too much with whores, for practical, health and psycological reasons.

4. Open your mind to others’ opinions. Ladies like strong men, but they hate argumentative and thick headed men.

5. Increase your intellectual power. Read more about subjects that may be of interests to them, like motorbikes, cars, yoga, exercise, gardening, cooking, plants and animals (endangered ones are the best subjects), chick-flick movies, travelling, etc. After you gain such knowledge, you can share it with others here in this blog. I am sorry to say that I have not read anything usefull coming from you in this blog so far. I believe you have the power to change that.

6. If you have good look, that’ll help. But that’s only for the opening act, the breaking of the ice so to speak. After that, you need to impress them with your charm, and intellect.

Tony, you don’t have to follow my advice if you don’t want to and that you can always go back to your ill-repute ladies. Good Luck matey.

Let me add one more advice for you Tony:

7. Ladies love dogs, especially puppies. Get yourself a cute puppy. It always works well for me. Take/walk the puppy every time you are going lady hunting. I guarantee that ladies will flock to you. Good Luck.

Hi Barrie,

Look forward to meeting you and Candika. We’re at Bali Ayu in Seminyak for the first four days. After that wherever takes our fancy, but this trip revolves around dental treatment at the Kuta Galleria clinic [not "third world" Tony, world class by any standards]. As a consequence, we won’t be disappearing somewhere in East Bali.

If you contact the Bali Ayu, we’re booked in under Rex Gate and Emiko Nishikawa. No doubt everyone at Prawita will know who Barrie and Candika are. We’ll catch up for sure.

Hi Rex,

I made a note of your last names and where you are staying. Definitely contact you mate that night or the next morning.

Scottycol,

Yeah, it would be great if Lily wants to catch up with us as well. You are right, Baliblog is bringing like-minded people together.
