Ride to Batubulan Bali

Friday was a steaming hot day in Seminyak. The sun was a blow-torch and I was feeling the need to get away from my computer, there’s only so much Jakarta Post I can take. My idea was to ride in the direction of Gianyar to see some sights along the way. Dressed in long pants, shoes, long sleeves, sarong, gloves and helmet, only my nose had a chance of getting any sun. Using my ceremonial sash, I secured the GPS to the handlebars so it wouldn’t slip all over the place and I was off. A small fee of 15,000rp at a petrol booth on Jl. Seminyak saw me get 1 large and 1 small bottle, easily enough for today.

The route I took was to jam down to Sanur on the Bypass and change onto the main road heading to Batubulan. I tell you along the way I could of filled a book with photos. Roadside vendors selling rabbits in cages, puppies, birds, food, you name it. When I’m flying by its just too much hassle as well as dangerous to hit the brakes and go back. Riding through Batubulan is cool. The stone carvers have their places lined up along the street and come up with all kinds of statues, pots and ornaments. Although Bali is Hindu, there is a heavy Buddhist theme is the stone carvings. Obviously western and Asian tourists come here and buy stuff.
