Made's Warung Kuta Bali

mades072805.jpgAfter coming back from Green Ball I pulled into Kuta and stopped for a beer at Made's Warung in Kuta. Made's Warung was pretty much the first warung in Kuta 30 years ago starting out as a single shack. Now it's a roaring business with another outlet in Seminyak. Sitting there with my Alpha Smart I could of sold 20 of them, as every other tourist stopped, looked at it, then asked me about it. The thing I like about Made's is that location is handy, on Jl. Pantai Kuta, leading to the beach and that right on the street is a viewpoint to the street action. The long warung-style tables, where you sit on a bench next to strangers are cool and I prefer it to having my own isolated round table. When its busy I can meet cool people, like those Harley guys from Java.

The only type of beer they serve in Carlsberg (19,000rp per glass). I have a good recommendation for spaghetti carbonara, its supposed to be one of the best around.

Made's menu consists of: Breakfast (2 scrambled eggs 16,000rp), Sandwiches (Club Sandwich 28,000rp), Salad (Tuna Salad 25,000rp), Soup (Vegetable soup 16,000rp), Appetizers (Shrimp cocktail 28,000rp), Western Food (Hamburger 33,000rp), Pasta (Spaghetti Tuna 33,000rp), Noodles (Fried Noodles 20,000rp), Indonesian Food ( Nasi Campur 20,000rp), Japanese Food (Tempura 60,000rp), Balinese Food (Pepes Ikan 25,000rp), Cakes/ Desserts ( Tiramisu 20,000rp), Ice Cream 20,000rp, Pancakes (Banana 16,000rp.

There are also specials including Rijst-tafel (rice table) for 80,000rp per person.

Hi Nick Me and my wife are coming to Bali near the end of Aug. We are taking a GAP tour for eight days. Do you know if they are anygood? I didn’t find this site before we booked and paid for the tour. Seems expensive $500 Canadian dollers for each of us. The losmans in Ubud seem much cheaper at around ten dollars per night. You site is very informative and very interesting. Thanks

G’Day Nick,

Fabulous place for people-watching and, meeting people.
Their Chicken & Salad sandwich is a melt-in-the-mouth delight and more than enough for one person. In fact, When Candika and I eat there, we generally share a meal because their servings are so big.

Marc, I don’t know about GAP Tours. Ubud losmans are simple and great in my opinion, you can’t lose, you get a handy place to stay, meet the locals and save money.

Barrie, I’ve laways had the nasi campur (20,000rp) but will try other parts of the menu.
