Looking for lamps in Kuta Bali

Today I stopped by another lamp shop on the loop at the bottom of Jl. Legian opposite Panorama Cottages II.

I saw 2 similar lamps mixed in with locally made coconut and glass lamps. The lady quoted me a higher price than the shop in Seminyak and I asked her if there were other places selling them as I wanted to shop around for choice. She told me about the place in Seminyak and I said “what about in Denpasar, is there somewhere that has a ton of them?” she said no and they actually come from Java.

I rode on to Ace Hardware and picked up 3 6 inch nails for 5,000rp. I intend to nail the lamps to my palm trees when I get them, which hopefully will make a nice effect. Ace also has small lamps which are actually are a similar price to the much nicer large lamps at the shop in Seminyak. I’m thinking of paying another visit and waving some cash around to force a better deal.

Here in Bali right now the weather is unbelievable…clear blue skies and the surf is cranking too. As I swung past the lifeguard tower on Pantai Kuta I stopped and snapped a photo of a breaking wave for all you Indo loving surfers out there dreaming of returning.

As I sat there with my engine still running I observed the endless ritual that is performed all over Bali of placing a ‘canang’ at an important place to prevent demons from entering.

I saw a Jakarta Post article that says that the US is willing to work with General Wiranto should he become the next President of RI. The US were best friends with Marcos, the Shah of Iran and a host of other ‘nice guys’ so this shouldn’t be hard.

Talking to vendors here I get mixed responces on the tourist levels. Handicraft vendors tell me there are not many people, but the folks over at the travel desk at Okie House on Poppies II say there’s plenty of business, not like before but still good. I comfirmed Andrea’s flight back to Germany over the phone this morning with my freind Kadek at Okie House. Located right there on the street close to Hotel Barong this place is good for shipping light parcels, mailing cards and checking flight info as well as arranging inter-island transport. I’ve even rented a Kijang SUV here.

G’Day Nick,

USA and Wiranto getting along?. Hey, I saw some pigs flying in the sky today!.

Geez Nick, Rob’s on his way back and that means you are going to have to practice all those new dance steps - Clothes Hoist, lawnmower etc.!.

The foto of the wave looks luscious and very tempting, and with sunny weather like you have now, I am drooling!. Still, noy long and I’ll be back there mate.

Nick

If you go up to the Gaol and hang a right, there is a road that sort of winds its way to Denpasar (no idea of the name of the road) but it has lots of little shops/outlets selling lamps and furniture. Worth a little look.
