Latest opinion about Bali tourism in Kuta

This evening I was walking around in Kuta after eating dinner at Bamboo Corner on Poppies I. I deliberately wore a t-shirt under my short sleeve shirt as the weather is cooler. Riding around at night one could easily get cold. The locals are all wrapped up any time near sunset.

Recently we have had great tourist numbers and Kuta has been packed with Australian and French tourists. I asked a t-shirt vendor named Made, who has the very last shop on Poppies I where it meets Pantai Kuta, how business is. I always ask and she always says 'tidak bagus'. Yesterday she said 'business bagus'.

This evening walking down Jl. Benesari I noticed the stack of motorbikes outside Warung 96, the place was packed. Also doing great business were the neighboring pizza places. Jl. Benesari has revamped a couple of the surfboard shops and an internet cafe. I checked out a couple of internet cafes, the first an older place with an awful connection (100rp per minute but it takes 5 minutes to get Yahoo's homepage). The next place is new and had 12 terminals, 10 inside and 2 outside (200rp per minute). Speed is slow but workable, hardware new, with USB ports!

The new place has a big yellow sign saying 'Internet'. I asked for a business card but they didn't have any.

Hi

Well so much for the boycott of Bali discussed in Australian press post Corby’s confinement. Another piece of media hype and misinformation.
Seems like every day here they have to have a Corby story even if most of it is irrelevant, uninteresting or just plain inaccurate. Hotman has been a featured player of late. Not sure why he became involved; maybe he wants to “score”.
