Gong Corner: A great place to eat like a king in Kuta Bali

gong082805.jpgKuta has a hundred and one places to eat that are a great bargain. Ask any surfer or backpacker and you will get lots of suggestions. Many people will be familiar with Bamboo Corner on Poppies I and this place must be stamped in every Dutch passport. Those budget conscious Dutch folks will line up outside for 20 minutes rather than go to a place 20 meters away. Anyway in the evenings Bamboo Corner gets packed and some people are unaware that there is another branch only 1 minute away. Located on Gang Ronta, the narrow alley between Poppies I & II, Gong Corner has the exact same menu and some of the staff are related.

I had 'special sliced grilled fish' for 12,000rp which was basically a fish kebab. It was great and I was full. A small Bintang will cost 7,000rp and will a nasi goreng super. A chicken satay is 10,000rp, a pork satay 8,000rp. Folks these prices are around $1!!!

Gong Corner, a great place for cheap eats in Kuta Bali.

Can just picture all the tightasses lining up for a meal, ridiculous in Bali. Why not spend the extra

I think Bamboo Corner has gained a reputation for good portions also. Its is so popular with Dutch people in their 50’s that it mirror’s Warung 96 for the Aussies. When a friend tells their its good everyone goes there.

One of the places I reckon serves great food is Good Luck on Benesari, the best pizzas in the Poppies Lane area.

I can answer that one.

I am, have been, and for the next while will be, a backpacker. The reason I’m gonna be so tight in Indonesia is that I barely survive on the work that I actually get. I still want a holiday though, and am using my tax return for that. Because I spend my money wisely, I will spend a month in Indonesia and not 2 weeks. You could hardly blame me

Mat.

that`s the spirit mat, you can get a really good indonesian meal for rp8.000, compared to a western one for rp28.000, your money last`s longer, stay the month and soak up everything this wonderful island has to offer! good luck to you. scottycol…

Sometimes you spend money in 5* Hotels, eat in fine restaurants, give big tips, and in the end, the guy with the pack on his back that has seen more, met more people, mingled with the real country seats next to you, tells his story’s and you just wish you could have experienced what he did.
My best holydays have always been the ones when I focused on saving money, cause it forces you to discover!
By the way Mat, nice way to spend your tax refund!
