Enjoying the ocean breeze at Yulia Restoran

On our regular morning sojourns, Candika and I noticed this small restoran close to Kuta beach. Yulia’s restoran is a place where you can relax and enjoy the cool ocean breeze.

When Candika and I passed Yulia’s, the restoran was doing a brisk breakfast trade. A quick glance at the breakfast menu tells you why. It was extensive and very well priced. However, we were here for the other tucker since we had already gorged ourselves at brekkie elsewhere!. The regular menu, although not extensive, listed selected foods to suit most pallets.

The European dishes were resticted to five choices, and most of which I doubt an Indonesian chef could cook with finesse. A reasonable steak-grill section gave a fraction of life to the menu, although my guess is the steak was NZ import and expensive. The surprise though was the inclusion of a Charcoal-Ribs section on the menu, each portion served with the sauce of your choice. If the chef had been from the USA, then maybe I would have tried the ribs.

The restoran is clean, with rattan chairs and tables adequately spaced for privacy. But it was the sea breeze that was the most appealing factor of the restoran.

Candika ordered the Balinese Pancake (Rp10,000). Cooked to near perfection, the pancake filling consisted of blanched bananas, palm sugar, and lots of sweet Balinese spices. A chocolate sauce topping was sprinkled with Cinnamon and Nutmeg. Candika enjoyed the meal immensely but did comment it was a tad too sweet. Actually I thought it was a Diabetics nightmare!.

As a great lover of Javanese food, I chose the Nasi Goreng Ikan Asin. Fried rice with thick pieces of heavily salted dried fish, and mixed with hot Chilli peppers. the meal was most delightful and comparable to most I have eaten in Java. There was however an excess of chilli peppers. This tended to overwhelm the salted fish. I was convinced it was the same chillis Indonesian dentists use instead of Novocaine!. My lips were numbed and the inside of my mouth resembled an erupting volcano!.

Yulia’s restoran is one place I would not hurry to return to for a meal. What did amaze me was that when I wanted to pay the bill, I had to go searching around the restoran to find someone!

Nay, I am pretty certain it is from USA…
But it is awesome, some of my Balinese mates here have seen it & we have spent the last 18 months or so trying to get our hands on a copy! We called the head offices of most Video Rental places & they are like give us your number we will let you know….NOTHING!
But we will keep searching!!!!!!
THanks!

Hi Tracy D. I have seen some problems in the past with video equipment from outside the states, it may not play in color? I’ll ask some T.V. geeks if you’ll have a problem and write back.

Had American breakfast at Yulia Restoran and was disappointed. At 25,000rp, it was twice the price of other restaurants/cafes, but we decided to give it a shot. Everything was mediocre, and a very big mouse was peering down at us from the rafers while we were eating.
I wouldn’t go back there again in a hurry.
