Yesterday morning Candika decided she felt like a paddle in the ocean and so we cruised down Poppies Lane 1 to the beach. Getting to the beach took longer than I expected. Once past Bamboo Corner, there are numerous restorans. Candika’s stomach growled as she checked every menu!.
The first restoran along Poppies Lane 1 on ‘Candika’s stomach list’ was the Nusa Indah Pub and Restoran. It’s a pleasant enough warung with an extensive menu written on 3 large chalkboards out the front. And, before you ask, yes, they do give you a menu inside!. This place is good for budget travellers with nothing in the menu over Rp25,000 and for that you get a whole grilled Snapper.
The restoran has simple rattan cane tables and chairs but have the added touch of tablecloths. With green tablecloths and a flag on the wall from the Italian soccer club Roma, I was trying to figure out if the owner was an Irish-Italian,, or an Italian who loved leprechauns, or a Balinese who supported Roma and had fell in love with a leprechaun!.
The variety of choice in the Pasta section was impressive, as was the pizza section. However, I didn’t espy a pizza oven which leads me to the conclusion they are ‘cardboard pizzas’ shoved in a microwave for a couple of minutes until done or crisply black!.
The seafood and Mexican selection I also found interesting, but it was the Indonesian selection to which I turned. A few favourite dishes with a few ingenious adapations to original recipes is enough to tantalise the pallet. Candika toyed with the full page of Javanese/Chinese dishes, but finally settled for a curry. She ordered and suddenly I was having curry!. Cheeky!.

Candika ordered a Fish Curry (Rp8,500). A variety of fish pieces stewed slowly with hot Indian curry and vegetables. An ample serving of Nasih Putih and a smidge of side salad helped quell the fire inside Candika’s throat. It’s the first time I have ever seen her perspire!.
After watching Candika perspire for a few minutes, I decided to ask forgiveness from the Gods before I tucked into my Chicken Curry (Rp8,500). I was pleasantly surprised. The chicken pieces were thick and plentiful, and the added diced potatoes did little to delay the inevitable. Before I knew it, I had a pretty waterfall flowing off the top of my head. The curry flavour reminded me of a vicious Bombay curry but a tad milder. In all, it was an enjoyable meal and a curry sure to clean the pores of the skin!.

Candika and I paid Rp23,000 for two curries and two iced teas. It was a very cheap meal. For those who are coming to Bali on a budget, then this is the warung for you. They have an excellent choice for breakfast as well, each varying in price from Rp8,000 for the Continental to the American at Rp10,000.
