Once in a while, you come across a restoran where the food plunges the pallet into pure ecstasy. Candika, Josh and I were checking out a few places and came across a stunning restoran in Poppies Lane 1.
Kedin’s Cafe is a pure gem. From the outside, the cafe has the appearance of any warung in Bali. However, once inside, high stone walls and a raked ceiling give the place a Cathedral affect. We all joked that if the wooden tables and chairs were replaced with pews, then voila!….an instant church!. But we weren’t here to ‘break bread and sip jolly juice’. Kedin’e Cafe is pure Thai. The chef is Thai, and no doubt the owner. The soft lighting and music seem to conjure a romantic atmosphere, and the service, discreet and extremely polite. Kedin’s Cafe is very polpular and by 8pm the place will be full!.
The menu is practically all Thai food with the exception of a few Indonesian and Chinese dishes available. I found the selection of juices and desserts ‘Thai style’ to be most impressive. Josh was extremely impressed with the ‘Happy Hour’. He sipped 2 large Bintangs at Rp8,500 each!.

Josh was a tad peckish (growing lad!). He decided on an entree, and after going from one to the other, Josh decided on BRUSCHETTA (Rp7,000). Avocado and fresh herbs with tomato and basil and topped with a pineapple salsa. For the main course, Josh chose TUNA BESAQUAISE (Rp11,000). Lightly grilled tuna on a bed of ratatoulli. Josh never said a word, but had this sated smile on his face. With every mouthful he took, Josh gave a grunt accompanied by a Caesar ‘thumbs up’!.
Candika was actually adventurous!. The only Thai food she had before was a Thai soup at Captain Haddock’s on Jl Benesari. So this extensive menu was a confusing delight to her!. After much deliberation, Candika decided on GAENG KIW WARN KAI (Rp11,000). A Thai green chicken curry with coconut milk, snake beans, pumpkin and fragrant basil. At the conclusion of her meal, Candika had that I-want-to-come-back-here smile!.
I was more sedate in my choice and ordered KAI PRARAM (Rp11,000). Sliced chicken breast with lightly blanched green vegetables, and topped with a very moorish and crunchy peanut sauce. Definitely no complaints from your truly. It was bloody delicious!.

Kedin’s Cafe is an ace cafe in every respect. Highly recommended in every aspect.
Josh of course checked out the loo. He said they were interesting and gave them a rating of 7. Naturally I had to see for myself and it was hilarious. There were two doors beside each other, no gender signs to differentiate who’s was who, but on one door there was pinned a sign – ‘For Pee Only’. Go figure huh!.
