Bintang supermarket in Seminyak bali

Bintang supermarket is where Seminyak expats get most of the bare essentials, toilet paper, milk, shampoo etc. They don’t sell bullets, but apart from that, you can get most of what you need in one swoop. There’s a man on the door with a metal detector. Every time I walk through he scans my bag, the thing goes ‘beep’ and he says ‘Okay ya’, waving me through. “Do you want to look in the bag?” I say. Inside staff work under ceiling fans and spned a lot of time sorting and re-stocking shelves. In the west this is dine at night, here they do it during the day.

There is a decent fruit an veg section, which also sells a variety of cheese and tofu, at the rear of the shop you will find types of tea and coffee, cooking oils and condiments. The upstairs section stocks pots & pans, household and electrical goods and pens & pencils. When you buy something upstairs they write you a receipt, which you take to the cash register and someone delivers your goods a few minutes later.

Service is very slow, but polite and pleasant and often inlge sweets will be given instead of ocins, when the cashier doesn’t have the change. Outside is a booth selling pulsa for cell phones. Bintang is open from 9am-10pm
