This afternoon around 5pm I walked down the beach form my house in Seminyak to Blue Ocean Beach. I stopped and had a beer at Benny's, or more accurately the Lanai Bar & Grille, which it is now called. The Lanai has a great location, in between the gay volleyball pit and Cafe Warna (which is being remodeled). Some of the changes are new location for the bathrooms, a sharper look, better menu and hot looking PR staff (the chicks that stand around and try to get customers in). You will still see the same crowd playing backgammon every afternoon, the surf still looks great and the street scene is still a zoo of tourists, benchongs and pick-up artists, its just Benny's has gotten better.
Here are some simple truths about Benny's (The Lanai).
Who is this place for?
This place is for people who want to sit and enjoy the scene at Blue Ocean beach in Legian. People who want a relaxing drink, or a beachside meal.
What should you wear?
It's a beach scene so anything you want.
What does it cost?
At the Lanai a small Bintang is 12,000rp, Tenderloin steak is 54,000rp and nasi goreng special is 28,500rp.
What is the best time to come?
Late afternoon, before sunset. It's a scene for sure with an assortment of people to rival the bar scene in Star Wars. Plenty of people strutting their stuff on the street and the beach.
What are my chances of hooking up?
Plenty of attractive bules and locals of both sexes in close proximity. If you put in some effort you'll bump into to someone. Don't be afraid to introduce yourself to a local. They are not as tight-ass as westerners.
Negatives
The sun can be in your face during sunset hours so pick your spot.
