Cabe Rawit is an Indonesian restaurant located on Jl. Kunti in Seminyak. The place is never busy, but often seems like a freak show, with very eccentric couples, groups of Indonesian / westerners and various oddballs.
Tonight I went over there, 5 minutes from my house to get Ika and I ‘ayam taliwang‘ (grilled chicken in spicy Lombok style sauce). Its good and I recommend it. Ayam taliwang comes with plain rice and lalapan (raw vegetables including mint leaves, green beans, cucumber and cabbage). Also included is a dish of super hot sambal. I like the grilled chicken and getting my mouth burnt out, followed by some cucumber. Its definitely an Indonesian way to do things. Across the street from Cabe Rawit (a hot red chili ), are 2 salons, and tonight some of the staff (I’m guessing) came over. One guy was the ‘loud benchong‘, you know the kind, who comments on everything (including the fact that I was the ‘bule itu‘), in the place and does a running commentary. I was dying to get out of there before the food arrived.
Fortunately he didn’t lean over and tell me I look like Heath Ledger. The food, when it came was good, as it always is, and Cabe Rawit is a handy place to get that ‘bule Indonesian food fix’.
Our 2 ayam taliwang’s and 1 large Bintang were 55,000rp.

Great local places are always treat and Ika’s auntie Desi took us to a place a while ago which I has frequented since then. Cabe Rawit serves ayam taliwang ( grilled chicken in a Lombok style sauce). It comes with lalapan (raw vegetables ) and fiery hot sambal.
I went there last night and for 25,000rp had a decent amount of food. Cabe Rawit serves Indonesian food and is aimed at Indonesians with cash and foreigners.
