arin091305.jpgLocated on Jl. Singosari (between Jl. Kartika Plaza and Jl. Raya Kuta) in Kuta, Arin Gallery is the home of Heru Purnomo (Arin) from Surabaya Java. Arin has been here since 1993 painting a whole range of styles including surrealist (is that a style?) and traditional Balinese for the tourists. Arin does oil on canvas as well as batik painting. When I visited his shop he was by himself and told me his studio was just around the corner. Arin sells his paintings for a range of prices depending on size and the particular piece. He pointed out a large piece he wanted $500 for and other for $60-$70.

Arin told me he does batik painting courses right here in Kuta at his gallery. A 3-day course will cost 400,000rp. I wouldn't mind taking that class sometime. Batik is the traditional cloth that is made by covering certain parts in wax, then dying the material.
