An obvious OZ favourite in Legian

After a cruisy walk along the beach watching the stunning Kuta sunset, Candika and I walked along Jl Melasti. It was there we found a restoran that was a definite Aussie hangout!.

The Legian Garden Restoran is located opposite the Pasar Seni Mertha Nadi on Jl Melasti. Spacious and clean, the restoran has a comfortable feel about it. The staff are chatty, and for a moment, I felt like I was sitting in my dining room at home with friends!. On the walls are Aussie Rules memorablia, and also above the long bar where you can sit, have a drink and watch direct sports telecasts on the TV. Convenient eh!. Hey, if ya go to the loo then check out the massive kitchen as you pass by it. It’s spotlessly clean.

The menu is varied and sectionalised for easy choice. I was extremely impressed with the Indonesian section which offered one or two dishes from Java and Sumatra, as well as the superb Balinese dishes. With so much fresh seafood available daily in Bali, it really is hard to go past that section.

Candika had seen enough of the ocean for the night and decided against seafood. She chose the AYAM KALAS (25,000). Grilled chicken in a creamy coconut milk sauce with sliced chilli peppers, onions and long green beans. I got a shock when the dish was placed in front of Candika!. There was half a chicken sitting on a bed of creamy sauce, and it looked moorish. Candika ordered Nasih Putih to complete her meal. She obviosly enjoyed it because the plate was clean except for the bare bones of half a chook!.

I was definitely not going to dismiss the seafood and ordered CUMI-CUMI PEDAS BUMBU BALI (Rp28,000). Stir-fried squid with onions, hot red and green chilli peppers, and a variety of Balinese spices. The chef sure knew how to cook squid!. It was perfect. The squid was tender and the chilli’s gave it one hell of a bite!. I was grateful for the Nash Putih…and of course the delightful iced tea. Funny how these things help sometimes eh!.

An extremely friendly and warm restoran. If you are after a good place to chill out, have a cold drink or devour some good tucker, then head on down to the Legian Garden Restoran. You will not be disappointed.
