Alleycats is a hole in the wall English restaurant tucked away in the alley that is next to Made’s Warung in Kuta. This afternon I talked with owners Matt and Rachel from England. They specialize in traditional English food, ranging from breakfasts, to Sunday roast. Matt’s dad is from Pakistan and he has a collection of secret family recipies from that part of the world. Matt & Rachel are hand-on chefs and focus oh quality. They showed me a photo of their mixed grill and let me tell you, it takes a man to finish it!
Matt and Rachel have been in Bali a year and a half and are still getting used to some of the intricacies of life here, including riding amongst crazy traffic. On the whole they seem to be positive about where Alleycats is going.
Alleycats is open from 9.30am-9.30pm, closed wednesdays.
Looking through the menu there are the following categories:
Breakfast Menu (available 10am-5pm) featuring the Real English Breakfast (30,000rp)
Lunchtime Menu (available 10am-5pm) featuring Hot & Cold Baguettes (All day breakfast baguette 27,000)
Burgers (available 10am-5pm) featuring the Aussie burger (33,000rp)
Fresh Salads (available 10am-5pm) featuring Chicken Salad (24,000rp)
Main Menu (available 10am-10pm)
Starters featuring Mexican Potato Skins (15,000rp)
Snacks & Sides featuring Onion Rings (5,000rp)
Main Courses featuring Fillet Steak (40,000rp)
The Monster Meal Menu featuring the Monster Mixed Grill 90,000rp
Indian Menu featuring Lamb & Spinach Curry 28,000rp
I really like some of their ideas in the menu. For example they say “Nothing quite right? Tell us what you want and we’ll do our best to put it in front of you.”
I like that, some restaurant owners in Bali, don’t even live in Bali, never mind ask me what I want!
If you are looking for a good Sunday Roast call Alleycats for a booking, they only seat 10. Surfers needing a great breakfast check out this place.

all the bra to small for her ????
Okay loved the interview with Alley cats but found it hard to understand just where it is exactly…we are coming over on march 16th and want to book for sunday roast do they have a web or email site to book thru now that would be fantastic. thanks so much…sara
AlleyCats isn’t a fancy place, but the food looks good.
They don’t have a website yet.
Alleycats is located in the small alley next to Made’s Warung in Kuta. If you can find Made’s Warung, its 20 meters away, around the side. Ask anyone where Made’s Warung is (Jl. Pantai Kuta, close to the bottom of Jl. Legian).
Well Matt is still on the go today although Rachael is back in UK now. Hopefully he’ll enjoy the bottle of Tanqueray i left him this week as he was pretty ill last week.
The curries are given a list of spiciness up to Volacano level (15 chillis per dish) if you like it hot (or even more chillies on request). One young man who shall remain nameless has let it be known that he wants to try for 50 chillies before he leaves Bali. I guess there’ll be no room for the curry on that plate then.
Even a traditional Swedish meatball dish (Köttbulle, i think it is. Don’t pronounce it unless you know Swedish) has now made the menu and was proving popular with those Scandinavian lads and lassies.
I shall return in May or June 07 and definitely drag Matt out for a jug or two. Tara, Pete
I went to Alley cats, kuta in summer 2005, I had the best bangers and mash ever there, really stopped my home sickness. they are both great people too. I am due to return in 6 weeks, so matt and Rachel expect a visit from me. Also your name has been passed around several times here in devon.
wishing you both all the best, keep up the good work
regards
Nikki
