A delightful surprise in the lane

After ploughing through my bullshit email at the Internet Outpost, Candika and I headed down Poppies Lane 2 to a restoran I saw earlier that morning. The Wombat has found another gem of utter culinary delight.

Jegeg Bulan is a mere stone’s throw from the Internet Outpost, or if you like, only a hop, skip and a jump. I asked one of the guys working there about the place and he informed me the restoran was previously known as Warung Bhudda. What impressed me was the interior of the place. Sure, it had the usual wooden tables and chairs, but it was the soft lighting and the not-too-deafening music that appealed to me. It’s a fair size restoran and if you’re heading down there for dinner, I suggest you get in fairly early because the place gets packed after 8pm. The staff are brilliant in every aspect – always attentive to your needs and friendly.

Perusing the menu was a mouth-watering flick of the page. It took me several minutes to get past the extensive breakfast menu!. Candika was, as always, hungry and the Wombat kept his arms to his side at all times. The Jegeg Bulan has a delightful selection of seafood, Chinese, Indonesian, and has a great pizza list. After five minutes Candika decided on the Chicken Satay [adventurous Indonesian isn't she!] but rather that ordering Nasih Putih, she chose French fries. I was drooling when her meal was placed in front of her. Naturally I took a chance, stole a French fry and dunked it into the bowl of Satay. Absolute yummy. The Satay was rich and crunchy. Candika never said a word but smiled whilst she chewed [It's an Indonesian thing!], then gave it the big thumbs up.

The Wombat naturally couldn’t go past the Grilled Tuna Steak in Garlic Butter Sauce. This was accompanied with a fresh salad and French fries. I tell ya folks, the Tuna was an absolute dream to eat. Each flake of Tuna melted on my tongue. I was particularly impressed with the freshness of the salad. I had a said serving of Tartare sauce, but, who’d touch that when your Tuna steak is smothered in garlic pieces and grilled onions!.

Grilled Tuna Steak in Garlic Butter Sauce – Rp24,000
Chicken Satay – Rp17,500

As usual, scores out of ‘5′:

Service: 5
Food: 5

In fact, everything about this restoran is a big ‘5′ and I would highly recommend it for the reasonable prices, the staff and, location.

Hi Tracey,

In Poppies Lane 2. Come out of the Outpost, turn right going towards the beach and its only a few hundred yards down on your right hand side next to Circle K.

Truly Tracey, it is superb tucker. I’ve been there 3 times already and will head back again for MORE!!!

Hi Tracey,

I’ve eaten a lot of strange things on my travels but never ‘Pickled Grandmother’! (He, he…!)
