You have 2 beach one is Jungutbatu in the north is the bigger of the two with a lot of hotels and cheap eateries, for the backpackers and the surfers. Now with the development of the Bukit this area is fast becoming the main attraction and provides some of the best accomodation on the island. The views from the accomodation on the Bukit are second to none on Nusa Lembongan and but not to Bali.

In addition to Lembongan, you should continue on to Nusa Penida. It seemed to me like Bali 20 years ago. There are fewer Motorcycles, the evenings are only hanging with locals, drinking beers and talking. There are 6 interesting temples including the strange Dahlem Ped (large temple of the dead) and Goa Giri Putri (a 300 ft large cave with shrines) There are also intersting waterfalls and tours. Here is a new almost finished web site from a new local guide - Agus Noeza.

To be fair, I must add that a snorkeling trip was a highlight, not 100% sure of the name but I've a feeling it was 'Paradise Cove' that we visited. Best collection of coral I've ever seen.

Of course Lembongan is nicer if your only impression of Bali is Kuta. But for those who've ventured out of the Bali tourist precinct, Lembongan just does not compare. My wife & I spent 3 nights on the Island a few years ago, and we were not impressed at all. Hotter, dryer, dustier, and rather boring we thought. If we hadn't befriended a Kiwi couple on the first afternoon we would have returned to Bali on the next available boat.

But if you're a surfer, I believe it's heaven.
We're not surfers unfortunately.
