According to the Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency, Bali and Java can expect big waves for the next few days. The last couple of days have been extremely windy, with sand blowing across Jl Seminyak! This news will excite surfers, even though the wind may not make it the perfect conditions. Here’s more from the Jakarta Post.
Wet season conditions here in Bali, and after strong storms, the eastern coastline is where you’ll find most surfers. Nusa Dua right now is getting offshore winds, whcih are rather too strong. Today’s swell height was predicted at 8ft, with a 20mph wind.
People come to Bali from all over the world, just for the waves. This year we have dry season-like conditions in December! That means the western Bukit breaks, are getting offshore winds as well as less garbage in the water right now.
Passing the beach today I saw it was pretty flat as far as surf. Also the wind seemed low which is good news for beginning surfers, who need smaller waves.
Tuesday afternoon I met up with Steve from Perth and Scotty Col also from Perth via Scotland.
‘What’s the surf like in Bali?’ I hear all you stay at home Aussie surfers yelling. Yesterday down on Kuta Beach the weather conditions were great, not too much wind and sunny. The swell was small though. A more professional report is provided by BaliWaves (these guys surf everyday!). As I’ve said before, the hardest wave I’ve ever surfed was in Kuta. Today, I’d probably head to Nusa Dua, on the eastern Bukit, due to the more favourable wind direction.
Christmas Day passed without incident here in Bali. I spent the day at an internet cafe, while family and friends did their thing. My neighborhood is quiet, many expats from Europe probably staying at home with family.
Last night I awoke at around 2am to a blast from the past. Torrential rain hammered the roof and its was great to hear. Today my garden nicely watered, the hot sun already. We need more rain and looking at the Bali weather forecast, we are not going to get it.
My neighbour here in Seminyak is an Aussie guy named Julian. His wife is from Spain and the are both surfers. Their daughter is about the same age as Jevon, but when they get the chance they still like to get in the water. This afternoon Julian told me Bali was getting strong onshore winds both on the western Bukit and in Seminyak.
Surf conditions were decent today on the Bukit, according to Bali Waves. Wind was ESE at 2-4 knots, water temp was 22C, and the clear blue skies led into a 30C type of afternoon.
