Surf movies for when you can’t be in Bali
Bali’s tourism industry owes a lot to surfing, after all it was the surf at Kuta Beach that first drew Aussies here in the 60’s and 70’s. The surf movie is a part of the culture too, with epics like The Endless Summer, Morning of the Earth and Riding Giants leaving viewers not just with a sense or awe, but with a vivid memory of the place they were filmed.

As the dry season draws closer, surfers will be planning their trips to Bali. June/ July sees clear skies, cooler weather, and an offshore wind on the western Bukit, which is ideal for surfing.

Big waves expected in Bali / Java
According to the Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency, Bali and Java can expect big waves for the next few days. The last couple of days have been extremely windy, with sand blowing across Jl Seminyak! This news will excite surfers, even though the wind may not make it the perfect conditions. Surfing going up market
A recent article in World Hum, talks about how the stock has risen in the surfing industry. Years ago surfing was reserved for beach bums and guys with too much time on their hands. With the advent of companies such as Billabong, Quiksilver and so forth, people who have never surfed, now wear surf clothing. You can find surf shops in London!

New surf website in Bali
This afternoon I met up with Palu, the Aussie guy from Byron who has a surfboard factory on the Bukit. Palu specializes in big yellow sleds, for learners. If you want to wipe out half a dozen Kuta Cowboys in one go, borrow one of Palu’s boards, they are surfing’s equivalent to the Humvee.
