Bali Learning To Surf In Bali

Beginning surfers in Bali

Surf shops in Kuta offer an array of surfboards ranging from brand new Al Merrick to beaten up boards that have gone brown in the sun. Figuring out what right board is right for you takes more than just finding one with nice colors.

Give surfing a try in Kuta Bali

Surfing has truly caught on. Here in Bali I see people from Japan, the UK, the US and of course Australia ariving with their body bags, eager to forget about the place they come from and hit the surf. A recent articles in the Star.com has information on the surf school that I took a lesson from once, Bali Learn to Surf down on Jl. Pantai Kuta.

Corby case brings the 'Kato's out of the woodwork

Every high profile case needs it eccentric characters. The OJ Simpson trial had Kato Cailin, the Corby trail has her lead attorney, Hotman Paris Hutapea from Jakarta. Corby's Perth legal advisors smelt a rat as soon as they got here with the Bali legal team suggesting the best way for a result was to get $500,000 to the appeal judges. They were fired, then re-hired and now Hotman has come on board.

Brahma's surfing lesson on Kuta Beach Bali

family071605.jpgSaturday morning I did something I never do, I went surfing! Actually the situation was my young brother in-law, Brahma from Semarang Java had his first shot at surfing and I was the teacher!!! Pretty funny eh, me teaching someone to surf. Brahma is leaving today by bus for Semarang, his father arriving 2 days ago. I had said to him before that we should grab a board and try it out. My mother and father in-law wanted to come too so we jumped on 2 motorbikes and zoomed down to Kuta to borrow a surfboard from my mate Palu. His board rental place is on Poppies II and I picked out an 8ft yellow sled for plus a couple of black rash vests. The hike down to Kuta Beach was about 5 minutes and after spending a good 30 seconds showing Brahma what to do we headed off into the surf. He told Ika he was worried in case he couldn't understand my instructions and I made my actions big a clear.

Learning to surf in Bali

girls_board053004.jpgThis morning I got an email from a lady who had just signed up for a 3-day beginning surf lesson with us. She was coming in August but already excited about and asked me what exercises she should do before hand. Being a crappy surfer, but a great bullshiter, I told her yoga, as the 'sun salutation' is similar to surfing! Well it is a funny kind of way, the stance is similar to the pop-up. Reading the email I could remember my own excitement when I took a surfing lesson a couple of years ago.
