Bali What to Do

There’s no limit to the things you can do during your visit. We’ve come up with a few ideas though to get you off to a flying start.

Billabong Pro Junior Series Indonesia

Indonesia’s hottest junior surfers will be joined by a truly international field of the world’s best junior’s to put on a display of hi-fi surfing from June 18-22 at Bali’s most popular lava bottomed black sand right-hander of Keramas Beach, as the opening event of the Billabong Pro Junior Series Indonesia blasts off. The waves at Keramas Beach consistently offer up hollow sections, steep walls, and perfect ramps, providing the amping juniors just the right forum in which to show off their complete repertoire of high scoring manoeuvres. All this talent, together with the promise of a new swell on the horizon, promises to bring an overload of high-grade action for the lucky spectators on the beach.

Flights to Sabah from Bali Confirmed

mini-kinabalu.jpgAlthough not a part of Indonesia, the province of Sabah in northern Borneo (Kalimantan) is still one of the most desired destinations for the adventurous traveller. Having only been there once and also to Sarawak, it is one place that I would highly recommend. If you are in Bali or Jakarta and wish to explore the neighbouring islands then good news is at hand. AirAsia has reaffirmed, officially, its direct flights to Kota Kinabalu in Sabah from Jakarta and Bali, Indonesia. Jakarta-Kota Kinabalu’s first flight commenced on 30 March 2008 and Bali-Kota Kinabalu’s had …

Two Exhibitions in Bali

mini-luca1.jpgBeing a great lover of the arts and forever in galleries and museums, it is the art of photography that is my passion. Travel anywhere in Bali and the photographic opportunities are endless. The same can be said for the rest of Indonesia and in fact, South-East Asia. Currently there are two excellent photographic exhibitions in Bali. Here’s more from Bali Discovery.

Saving the Elephants

mini-sumatran-gadjah.jpgIndonesia currently has 16 or more species on the verge of extinction. A further 30 are classified as endangered. On the critically endangered and endangered lists are the Sumatran tiger, the Bali starling, the Javanese wild dog, the orangutans of Kalimantan and Sumatra, the Sumatran gibbon and the Sumatran elephant. Some claim the number of Sumatran elephants remaining in the wild is around 1,500, while the more conservative believe 1,000 is more likely. A further 900 or so are found in Sumatra’s elephant camps; once known as elephant training centers, the camps are now called elephant conservation centers and are designed to save the species. However, these camps have become death camps for far too many elephants, according to elephant conservationist Nigel Mason of the Elephant Safari Park in Taro, Bali.

Billabong Pro Junior Series Indonesia

mini-mini-bali.jpgBillabong has released the official dates for the Pro Junior Series in Bali for 2008, announcing a return to the prime locations of Keramas, Kuta Reef and Canggu for the three event circuit. The inaugural 2007 series dished up some of the tastiest waves the juniors had seen in a long time and 2008 will again see a return to the same venues. The events are open to any global competitor willing to try their hand against the local Indo rippers, you just need to be aged 20 and under. While the events are not ASP sanctioned, (no ratings points) what better way to spend three months than chillaxing in Bali, chewing Nasi Goreng, sampling the local festivities and getting piped with only three other guys in the water.

Beginning surfers in Bali

Surf shops in Kuta offer an array of surfboards ranging from brand new Al Merrick to beaten up boards that have gone brown in the sun. Figuring out what right board is right for you takes more than just finding one with nice colors.

Surf report for Bali: December 4th 2007

Surfing in the month of December is not something most surfers look forward to. Plastic in the water, cloudy skies and most of the good Bukit breaks not operating at their best due to wind conditions. The eastern Bukit is the better choice this time of year with breaks such as Nusa Dua, Sri Lanka, Tanjungs and Hyatt Reef.
