Getting the kid inoculated in Denpasar Bali

Jevon has his last Hep B shot today at Puri Bunda hospital in Denpasar. Taxi fares have gone up since the fuel increases and the fare was 55,000rp each way. Thank God the innoculation was free.

Indonesia offers free polio inoculation to kids in Bali

The Indonesian government is giving young Indonesian kids a free polio inoculation after cases were reported in Java. Yesterday Ika heard about it and asked if we should take Jevon. He has had one already as part of Puri Bunda's childcare plan and will get another one next month. The polio inoculation is painless as it is given orally. Jevon is pretty good with injection too though, he cries for about 30 seconds then is back to normal.

Legian Clinic: A handy place for simple ailments in Kuta Bali

Your fun packed holiday in Bali can sometimes get derailed by illness or injury. For people staying in Kuta who want somewhere and don't want to pay the prices that BIMC and SOS charge, you might try Legian Clinic. The clinic is located on Jl. Benesari about 10 meters in from Jl. Legian close to Mama's. Open 24 hours it offers a range of simple services like eye irrigation and wound attention. I went in and used the bathroom which was upstairs. The building is old and feels like an 'affordable clinic'. It doesn't have the spotless feel of BIMC, but then again that doesn't mean the treatment isn't good. Doctors are available on call.

Puri Bunda: Baby hospital in Denpasar Bali-part I

puri_bunda_061505v2.jpgWednesday midday Ika and I took a taxi to Denpasar to have a consultation at Puri Bunda, the private hospital where the baby will be born in a couple of weeks. Puri Bunda is located on Jl. Gatot Subroto VI #19 and our 20 minutes ride cost 26,000rp in a Bluebird taxi from Seminyak. There are 4 levels of rooms and we are getting the second type that gives us a lounge area. If Ika has to stay in for a couple of days it will be a big boost for her to have her friends visit. Lately she has been feeling the extra weight and isn't as sprightly on her feet as she was the first several months. I often ask her "How is baby doing?" to which she will reply, "Baby sleeping." or "Baby naughty, always want to run."

Trip to the baby doctor in Denpasar Bali

Ika and I take a trip to Denpasar every month to visit Dr. Adam Zakaria, a Muslim doctor. Last night we took a taxi from my house in Seminyak to the office located on Jl. Diponegoro that takes about 25 minutes.

Jevon's latest visit to the doctor in Denpasar Bali

ika_jevon_ana101205.jpgThis afternoon Ika and I took Jevon to Puri Bunda, the private hospital on Jl. Gatut Subroto in Denpasar. Just over 3 months ago he was born here and since then has been back a few times for immunisasi. A couple of the first visits were included in the price of the birth and subsequent ones cost 275,000rp. They have a schedule for immunisasi and Jevon has his own book, similar to the buku kontrol, we had before he was born. Getting to Puri Bunda takes about 25 minutes by taxi and costs around 30,000rp each way. Today the place is quiet and we are first in line for our 4pm appointment. The other families are all Indonesian and include Chinese Indonesians and others, most within the age range of 25-35. It's a steaming hot day here in Bali and I want to get back home and into Barrie's pool, before hitting the internet again.

Clinics in Tanjung Benoa Bali

pratama081105.jpgHealthcare is an important concern for anyone in Bali taking part in serious activities like surfing, parasailing and getting drunk every day. For those staying in Tanjung Benoa there are at least 3 clinics and I visited 2 of them. The first was the tiny Pratama Clinic which is located on the left side of Jl. Pratama heading north. I spoke to the owner Ketut Suweta who told me about the services which include minor injury care, medical check ups and a dentist. Pratama Clinic is open from 9am-12pm and from 6pm-8pm. There is also an ambulance on call 24 hours a day.

Puri Bunda: Baby hospital in Denpasar Bali-part II

puri_bunda_061505v4.jpgWe entered the doctor's office and he had an ultrasound machine just like Dr. Zakaria, our usual doctor. Ika had a gel spread on her stomach and the doctor slowly moved a hand held scanner over it. Ika was excited to see the baby's face but the doctor told us the foetus was now getting big and for that reason the face was obscured. All vital signs are good and the weight right now is 2.9 kgs. Estimated date of birth July 7th, estimated weight 3.5kg. Here at Puri Bunda people are paying a decent amount of money and the level of treatment is higher than the local places. When Ika usually has a scan the nurse wipes up the globs of gel and pushes them back into the bottle, yuck!!!. Here they just wipe it all off.

Visiting the baby doctor in Denpasar Bali

Tuesday evening Ika and I took a taxi from Seminyak to Jl. Diponegoro in Denpasar to the office of Dr. Adam Zakaria. We have been there many times and know the drill. You show up, take a number and they get around to seeing you when your turn comes. I brought Bob Dylan: The Chronicles with me to help pass the time. The waiting room had a TV showing the usual Indonesia saucy slapstick shows and the customers, mostly Muslim couples seemed entertained.

Allergies in Seminyak Bali

I read in the Bali Advertiser today that a 40 year old American tourist had a motorbike accident where he slammed into a 19 year old Balinese woman. She was killed instantly, he died 8 days later in hospital. I am not going to preach, but if you are going to ride a motorbike do yourself a favour and wear a helmet.
