Aphrodisia Spa: Kuta Bali

aphrodisia spaAphrodisia Spa is a small streetside place on Jl, Singosari in Kuta. The interior is simple and rather dark. The 2 staff showed me around and offered a 25% discount, if I had a massage there and then. Deals on other services should be possible. According to their brochure: ‘Aphrodisia Spa is a place of relaxation, designed to create harmony for body & soul, using the finest natural ingredients. Our experience, professional touch and friendly service will leave you with unforgettable memories of Aphrodisia Spa’.

Toby & Maya in East Bali

toby & mayaTravelling with a young kid scares a lot of people. Just the thought of a trans-oceanic flight, long layover and dealing with baggage, Customs, taxis and hotels, is enough to put a lot of people off. Certainly there are moments of frustration, but as with everything, we create our own reality. If you travel thinking its going to be a stuggle, it will be. If you tell yourself things will work out, they always will. Travelling / living in Asia, is a lesson for westerners. After living in Hong Kong, I learned how to line-up, as in Hong Kong, there are lines for everything, all day long. Travelling in India taught me the importance of letting go of control. One time I especially remember, on the platform of a train station. My train was 30 minutes late, the sun was beating down, temperature about 35C. Pacing up and down, I asked the station master when the train was arriving. “Don’t worry Sir, train is coming.” he said. Another 30 minutes, and the train had not arrived. I asked him the same question, and got the same answer, finally realizing what he meant, that at some future time, a train would arrive, and there was nothing anyone could do to affect that. All the while, Indian families spread lunghi’s (sheet) on the platform, in shady spots, and waited patiently, playing with their kids and smiling.

Bali websites: The Bali Travel Forum

The Bali Travel Forum is one of the busiest Bali websites. Created in 1997, the forum is basically a message board that allows users to browse comments and questions posted by other people. Learning from other people’s experience can be a good way to save time and money. Many of the participating members of the Bali Travel Forum are repeat visitors to Bali, who like to keep up on local news and maintain contact with people they met in Bali.

Free wi-fi in Seminyak Bali

joulla'sFree wi-fi sounds like a dream come true, and it is certainly a benefit to a lot of people. In the last year many places have installed a wi-fi system, sometimes charging for it, other times not. One business owner asked me my thoughts on charging for wi-fi. I told him the primary attraction of wi-fi for users , is the ability to use their own machine. Secondary consideration is speed, third, location / cost. If you ask a guy with a laptop to choose between a free place, that is slow, or a place that charges, but has a fast connection, he’ll end up at the second place. Maybe not straight away, but eventually. I have been using Joulla’s on Jl. Dhyana Pura in Seminyak. Joulla’s is a German restaurant, that also does Indo food.

Suggestions for family exploring Bali

Today I got an email from a guy who is coming to Bali in 2007, with his wife and kids. He asked me for suggestions on what to do, saying cheap accommodation was key. I could of said find a pool with swim up bar, and stay there for 2 weeks. Instead I offered some simple thoughts on how he could get the most out of his trip, and show the kids something new.
