The Basement is a fairly large corner shop on Jl. Legian in Legian, stocking surfer / young people clothing. I stopped in and saw the half dozen staff busy counting stock and labelling.
Anyone who lives in Bali will have seen the popularity of wafer thin, white shirts and pants. These are on sale all over the place, and this afternoon I went to Yani Shop on Jl. Legian in Legian, to check some out.
Expats living in Bali often need the nuts and bolts, meaning hammers, drills, electrical and equipment etc. The one stop place is Ace Hardware in Kuta. Today I went over to Ace for a closer look.
How many wanderers have arrived in Bali, and ended up shipping home furniture in the hope of making a business for themselves? Its not all sunshine and light and assuming you get hold of decent goods for an okay price, you still have to get them home without damage, and sell them. Popular guidebook Shopsmart will launch its Bali & Lombok edition in Australia from early November. This latest title is the second of the series with the first, Shopsmart Singapore launched in 2004.
Joe Joe is a little shop on Jl. Seminyak, across the street from Lemon Grass Thai restaurant. Joe Joe specializes in bags and shoes for ladies.
This afternoon I met Patrick, the French creative influence behind Shaman, the fashion shop next to Cafe Seminyak at Bintang supermarket in Seminyak.
Ramayana Shopping mall is a place most westerners don’t visit. But a trip to Denpasar might take you past this past. If you head north on Jl. Tueku Umar and keep going, taking the compulsory left turn, onto Jl. Diponegoro, you will see the large orange-brick Ramayana Mall on the right hand side.
Visitors to Bali often like to shop for cheap gifts to bring home for friends. Even if you have a large, extended family, there is plenty of choice in Bali. The main places you will find the best selection of cheap gifts are Pasar Seni’s (art markets). In my opinion you could equally refer to them as junk markets, as there is nothing in them I’d actually buy, but for cheap nick-nacks they are handy.
In general, shopping hours in Bali are 9am-6pm. daily. Of course it depends where you are and what you are shopping for.
