Southern Bali is where 95% of tourists come to and spend their time. The most southerly tip of mainland Bali is the Bukit Peninsula. The Bukit is way behind Kuta / Legian / Seminyak / Sanur as far as development, but is getting popular, with people outside of the surfing industry.
Bali has a reputation for many things and spas are one of the categories where a visitor will have plenty of choice.
A ferry has sunk off of southern Kalimantan, killing 10 people. The Karya Mandiri was carrying 60 passengers from West Kalimantan to the port of Sukamara, on the coast of Central Kalimantan.
Herre is a quick glance at boat transport in Lombok & the Gili Islands.
Candi Dasa used to have a good beach, but it washed away, because the locals destroyed the reef for lime. That is a well known story. There is however a bit of beach left, and I checked it out this weekend.
Renting a car to explore Bali, is the way to go in my opinion. You have to watch out for yourself though, and my mind goes back to one little fender bender I had back in 2004.
Bali is a small island, with a roadsystem that follows the ridgelines and hills. Roads are often rutted and narrow and driving 10km as the crow flys, can take an hour. It is because of this, that scooters and motorbikes are so popular, cheap to buy, cheap to run, easy to park and able to navigate the gaps.
In the Gili Islands, there is no shortage of small local boats willing to transport you, from island to island and back to the mainland. None of boats has any kind of safety equipment and the waters around the Gili’s can be choppy. Regardless, they are a handy form of transport and make exploring the islands easy.
Most visitors to Bali, head to the Kuta / Seminyak area, on their first day here. Kuta is just 2 miles from the airport, and the big beachfront hotels in Tuban, are just a mile away. Some people however, like my friends from Oregon, have never been to Kuta, and instead head straight to Ubud, preferring the quieter pace. Just how easy is this to do stepping off a plane in Bali?
Perama bus does a service all over Bali, hitting most of the touriat spots. It also can arrange trips to Lombok and Sumbawa. Perama is not a tour bus, in that it does not do guided tours or show you historical sites. Perama is a point to point bus service, aimed at tourists. It differs from the local bemo buses, in that it has posted routes, schedules and prices.
