Bali is a literary destination! How about that! The Ubud Readers & Writers Festival starts today and is growing into an event that is showing up on more people’s radar scopes. Here’s more from the Jakarta Post.
This is the final weekend of the Kuta Karnival, a good opportunity to get down to Kuta Beach, and check out the nightlife activities.

The Kuta Karnival, the annual event that was inspired by the Bali Bombing in 2002, is in full swing. The event features surfing contests, beach soccer, music on Kuta Beach and a food court at the beach / Jl. Melasti.
The Bali museum in Denpasar was built in 1931 and it is unique collection of buildings and art. Designed by architect P.J. Moojen, the exterior walls, courtyards and gates, are designed in the style of a Denpasar royal palace.
Wednesday, October 11th will be the 4th anniversary of the Bali Bombings, that killed over 200 people in Kuta. The Sari Club and Paddy’s were the scenes of carnage back in 2002, both sites, still undeveloped.
Janet DeNeefe, the ‘Queen of Ubud’, as some people have called her, is the owner of Casa Luna and Indus restaurants, author of Fragrant Rice, and creator of the Ubud Readers & Writers Festival. Her connection with Bali goes way back.
This afternoon the sun was shining and crowds of mainly Balinese teenagers gathered on Kuta Beach, in anticipation of what the Kuta Karnival would bring them. Anyone driving along Jl. Pantai Kuta will notice the traffic blockages due to parking and pedestrians.
The village of Sanur is about to host a 3 day festival, involving sports and cultural events. I was checking out Sanur Village’s website and it had some interesting historical information, about the creation of the village. If you are staying in the Kuta area, you might stop on by the Sanur Village Festival. Hop on the Bypass and at the big roundabout you’ll head towards Sanur. Drive will take about 20 minutes.
Tumpek is one of the most interesting of the coincidence dates. Tumpek occurs six times in every Pawukon and each of these dates is separately important.
