Buffalo Races in Lovina Bali

Negara isn’t the only place in Bali where you can see a buffalo race. The sport is popular in Lovina, to be exact, in the village of Kaliasem. The tradition originated in Madura, is NE Java. Settlers brought it to both Kaliasem and Negara. Known locally as sapi gerumbugan, the races take place at the race in Kaliasem on particular afternoons.

Kuta Karnival: Fun at the beach

This afternoon the sun was shining and crowds of mainly Balinese teenagers gathered on Kuta Beach, in anticipation of what the Kuta Karnival would bring them. Anyone driving along Jl. Pantai Kuta will notice the traffic blockages due to parking and pedestrians.

Kuznetsova wins Wismilak tennis in Nusa Dua Bali

Svetlana Kuznetsova from Russia won her third Wismilak tennis tournament in Nusa Dua on sunday. I got a call from a friend asking if I wanted to sneak in at the last moment, but already had plans. Great to see Bali on the map for international sporting events. Here’s more from the Jakarta Post.

Irish rider wins Tour d’Indonesia 2006

The grueling Tour d’Indonesia 2006, which stretches 1,352.2kms from Jakarta to Bali, finished on Monday and was won by Irishman David McCann. This event should be a a commercial for ’sweat wicking underwear’ and salt tablets. Well done to all who finished the race.

The Kuta Karnival, the annual event that was inspired by the Bali Bombing in 2002, is in full swing. The event features surfing contests, beach soccer, music on Kuta Beach and a food court at the beach / Jl. Melasti.

Tour de Indonesia taking off today

The Tour de Indonesia kicks off today in Jakarta. The 1,352.2 kilometer race, ends in Bali on September 4th. In a sene the riders are very lucky, they are getting to rice across Java traffic free, something others only dream of.
