Dust off your running shoes, grease-up the bicycle and find your swimming gear. It’s on again – the Bali International Triathlon to be held from June 27 to 29. In its second year, the triathlon looks to attract even more competitors than the previous year. According to sources there are 250 athletes from a variety of countries as well as local runners. Bali is coming along as a venue for many international events, including the UN Conference on Climate Change, the Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic and the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival. For those who like to rumble or watch others rumbling, your time has come. Battle On Bali is a mixed martial arts contest featuring an international line up.

Bali is already on the world sports map with the Wismilak International women’s tennis competition taking place each year. A new event is being launched this year down in Jimbaran Bay. The Bali International Triathlon takes place on June 24th, at the Four Seasons Resort.

Billabong Pro Junior Series Indonesia
Billabong has released the official dates for the Pro Junior Series in Bali for 2008, announcing a return to the prime locations of Keramas, Kuta Reef and Canggu for the three event circuit. The inaugural 2007 series dished up some of the tastiest waves the juniors had seen in a long time and 2008 will again see a return to the same venues. The events are open to any global competitor willing to try their hand against the local Indo rippers, you just need to be aged 20 and under. While the events are not ASP sanctioned, (no ratings points) what better way to spend three months than chillaxing in Bali, chewing Nasi Goreng, sampling the local festivities and getting piped with only three other guys in the water.

Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic Nusa Dua Bali
The Commonwealth Bank Tennis Classic (formerly the Wismilak International Bali) is soon to start in Nusa Dua. The annual women’s tennis event draws international stars including American Lindsey Davenport.

Sumatran Orangutan Society Fun Run
Nature lovers listen up. The Sumatran Orangutan Society has arranged a charity fun run in aid of endangered orangutans. The run will take place in Ubud on Sunday, February 18th at 4pm. The start and finish will be at the downtown football field at Monkey Forest Rd.

Superbowl in Kuta Bali
Arriving early at Double D in Legian, for Superbowl XLI, I found out their great upstairs screen was off limits due to renovation. Sitting at the bar, the waitress took my breakfast order, the Big Double D (eggs, bacon, tomato, sausage, toast, tea or coffee for 35,000rp), and I settled in to wait for the game with several other westerners. Not watching that much TV here in Bali and only seeing 1 American football game a year, the media assault was rather overwhelming.

Buffalo Races in Lovina Bali
Negara isn’t the only place in Bali where you can see a buffalo race. The sport is popular in Lovina, to be exact, in the village of Kaliasem. The tradition originated in Madura, is NE Java. Settlers brought it to both Kaliasem and Negara. Known locally as sapi gerumbugan, the races take place at the race in Kaliasem on particular afternoons.
