Bali Arts Festival features unique Balinese dances
The Bali Arts Festival in Denpasar is in full swing. My friend, musician Richard Kaal was asked to perform with his Balinese gamelan / western fusion, but didn’t have time to practice for the event. Running until July 14th 2007, the event has an extensive schedule and features some unique Balinese dances.

Bali Dining Festival 2007
Bali is loaded with quality restaurants and in an effort to showcase these, The Bali Tourism Board, has teamed up with, Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC), Bali Hotel Association, Bali Culinary Professionals and Garuda Indonesia for a month-long food festival.

Galungan in Bali: June 27th 2007
Here in Bali we are on the eve of an important day. Tomorrow (June 27th) is Galungan and most local people will be heading back to their villages for a day to participate in ceremonies with their families. Galungan is a Balinese holiday that occurs every 210 days and lasts for 10 days. Kuningan is the last day of the holiday. Galungan means “When the Dharma is winning.” During this holiday the Balinese gods visit the Earth and leave on Kuningan.

Bali Taksu Film Festival
Bali is to get its own film festival later this year. The Bali Taksu Film Festival will take place in October and aims to attract not only Hollywood celebrities, but production companies seeking exotic locations for movies. Here’s more from the Jakarta Post.

SBY to open Bali Arts Festival
Indonesian President SBY will open the 2007 Bali Arts Festival in Denpasar. The festival is a showcase for Balinese culture, with representatives from every district, including artists, dancers and stall holders.

Swiss Films in Bali
Bali has a Swiss film festival currently showing. Opening night was Sunday March 25th at the Sofitel on Jl. Dhyana Pura in Seminyak. Monday night I joined one of the event organizers, Jane Chen from OnStage, for 2 Swiss movies. The event is sponsored in part by the Swiss Consulate and runs till Thursday, March 29th.
