Ika and I are back in Bali after a week in Semarang in Central Java going through the marriage ceremonies that are the custom there.
Wednesday January 26th was our big day and the event was made all that much more special by the fact that Sean and Chris were here from Oregon USA.
Ika and I arrived in Semarang last at around 7.30pm after circling the city for 30 minutes.
Today is Friday Bali time and my wedding is on Wednesday.
This morning I hit Cafe Moka in Seminyak early for a quick bowl of bread a pot of Kopi Bali.
Getting married in a foreign country means dealing with red tape, strange customs and the relatives. I like new cultures and customs and it can be interesting exploring other people’s ideas of the world. Occasionally their expectations, which are based on their perceptions get wildly out of whack and need some re-adjustment.
Monday morning in Semarang Ika and I awoke in Hotel Santika and enjoyed an Indonesian breakfast of steamed rice, tofu, beef broth and fruits.
One of my last tasks to perform before heading off to Java was to choose a couple of wedding rings with Ika.
Sitting here in an internet cafe in Seminyak the rain has started to slow from a pour to a drizzle.
Having a child in a foreign country with a foreign partner is interesting and one of the things to negotiate is the name of the kid.
