Bali Marriage in Bali
Indonesian mother-in-law in Seminyak Bali
My mother-in-law is visiting right now, staying in Kuta with Ika’s bother and sister. She’s around everyday, which is okay with me, as she enjoys playing with Jevon. As far as doing things and eating out, she is completely undemanding, which I like. At home in Java, she cooks at home all the time, never going to a warung. The places she would go out to eat at, are the covered street-side shacks, that you find all over Indonesia and Bali. On the upper section of the Sunset Rd, are typical food shacks, with banners advertising the kind of food, ‘Malang, Madura’ etc.

Grabbing Ika some satay in Seminyak Bali
When I’m running late and need to pick Ika up some food, I know one thing that is a sure fire hit. Satay. Balinese say ’sate’, which is no worries, because it sounds the same. All I had to do was ride down Jl. Seminyak, just past Bintang on the left side, and in one of the little market areas that goes back fm the street, was a guy with a smoking satay stall.

Mass Wedding in Timor: Timor Leste
There was a wedding post-earthquake in Bantul, Yogyakarta, and now 17 couples 'dived off the edge' and were married during the lull in the violence that now tears the country apart.

Are all Bali beach boys gigolo’s?
People come to Bali and its seems like paradise. The sun, sand and sexy locals, all sporting a smile and that intoxicating Balinese culture. Its enough to make a sane person lose their head. One of the emails I recieved asked if all the Bali boys were gigolo’s and could any of them be trusted. Here’s what I said.

Playing with the pembantu in Seminyak Bali
Having kids in Bali definitely requires shifting gears, but it is way less hassle than I have been led to believe. A friend of mine in the UK told me ‘you have to plan everything, you can never just take off, the key is having a bag of baby equipment at all times.’ Actually I don’t find it to be that way.

Getting invited to a Balinese wedding
This morning at Cafe Seminyak, one of the waitresses invited me to her wedding. The way they do things over here sometimes makes me laugh. Wayan, told me a while ago she was getting married, but to keep it quiet. This morning, after I sat down, she slipped into the next door shop and dropped an invitation on my table. I’m sure all her work mates know about, but in Bali, pretending is a key part of the culture.

Bali Fashion Week Postponed: Bali
Although not cancelled and rescheduled like the Kuta Karnival was, the 7th Bali Fashion Week has only been rescheduled. The Bali fashion week has without a doubt firmly entrenched itself on the international stage, so to speak.

Ika Bali tour
Ika came to me the other day and asked my opinion about doing a Bali tour. ‘Sounds great’, I said. She meant doing a tour herself for other Javanese people.

Jevon crawling in Seminyak Bali
Jevon is now 8 months and 10 days old. No I don’t have it memorized, I just checked my watch. Over last several weeks he has been trying to roll over, often getting frustrated at getting stuck on his arm. Now he can roll over and had discovered it is a good way to move, just keep rolling. Its cool but it means we have to keep more of a eye on him. I’m thinking of tying a 10ft stretchy leg rope to him. If he ventures more than 10 ft away from the bed, ‘TWANG!!!’ Back to bed in a hurry
