Ika’s condition in Seminyak Bali
Ika’s condition seems to be improving, although I want to see how she is in a few days, due to the cyclical nature of typhoid (fever, chills, headaches). Her sister Ningrum came over today. She is also sick and looks pale. For some reason she thinks she has typhus. Ningrum said she thought that was the Indonesian name for typhoid.

Bali Expat Forum: Information from people who live in Bali
Living on Bali is a dream for many people, but what is it really like for a foreigner? As Bruce Lee would say ‘if you want to learn how to throw punches, ask a man who does it for a living’ (a boxer).

Bali Gecko’s: Aussie rules team
Bali is home to many Australian expats, who like to keep in touch with the homeland. Those from Victoria, in particular, enjoy Aussie Rules football, and Bali has its own team, the Gecko’s.

Canggu Club: Private members club Bali
Canggu is trying to become the next big ‘bule’ district in Bali. Anyone who has been out there can’t avoid noticing the villas, some already built, others being constructed.

Time to workout in Legian Bali
Its 1pm and the sun is blazing here in Seminyak Bali. I just ate a chicken salad made by chef Ika and am ready to go for some exercise. The gym is called Sunset and is located on Blue Ocean Beach. My limited hours membership (10am-3pm) cost 2m rp for a year (half the regular membership). Sunset is small, but new and had AC. I still sweat like a whore in church, but way less than I would in an open place. Today I’ll knock out some crunches, use the chest press machine, fly machine then hit the eliptycal runner for 30 minutes. A pretty small amount of hard work, but I pack it into a small time frame. After which its back to Baliblog.

Seaside Gym: Legian Bali
Working out is one of my favourite parts of the day. The most time effective way I have found, that works for me, is to go to the gym. The gym I attend is Seaside gym, on Blue Ocean beach in Legian. From my house, which is close to Jl. Dhyana Pura in Seminyak, Seaside gym takes several minutes to get to, not because of the distance, but because of the traffic. I have been a member for almost a year and get benefit from going. My workouts consist of a short weight session, followed by 30 minutes on the running / skiing machine. I feel great afterwards and ignore comments from people who don’t like gyms. Hey, they work for me and I think can work for anyone, if you focus on what you’re there for, and not all the other nonsense that gym attract, including egos, attitude and personality clashes.

Lawn bowls in Nusa Dua Bali
Lawn bowls is a sport we often associate with white haired couples, and summer afternoons. Its the other end of the spectrum to 10 pin bowling, all noise and whollop. There is one place in Bali where you can play lawn bowls. The Jakarta Post talks about an Australian couple who encourage others to play.

Workout over in Legian Bali
Okay I survived my workout and feel like a hundred dollars. Its a steam bath right now, and I am sucking down OJ like an alcoholic at an AA meeting. Getting myself motivated for a workout is never a problem. I have to ride down Jl. Legian, then deal with moronic Balinese drivers on Jl. Double Six. They really know how to fowl up a situation and yesterday in particular, we all sat in the baking sun while knuckleheads on motorbikes refused to let the cars through, nobody going anywhere.

Sports on tv in Bali
I am sitting in front of my machine wondering what I am going to write. I have just come from a sports bar on Jl. Seminyak where I are Rendang Bali (beef in spicy sauce for around 25,000rp). While there I watched Chelsea hammer WBA in the English Premier League. I hate Chelsea, they have bought 2 teams worth of good players and showboat how easy thy can beat lower teams. Their days at the bottom of the pile will come again so enjoy this brief moment of success Chelsea fans.
