Buying land in Bali: Watch your step
Buying land in Bali and building your ‘dream house’ is something many people consider. During my time living in Bali I’ve seen some quite dramatic situations where foreigners went diving in and got / almost got burned. Indonesian law states that only Indonesian citizens can own land in Indonesia, but many property companies claim to be able to sell you ‘freehold’ land. What is the validity of these claims and how will it stand up down the line? An excellent article in BaliDiscovery warns foreigners to tread carefully when dealing with land sales.

Sunday afternoon Ika, Jevon and I are heading up to Tampaksiring, close to Ubud to help a friend sell his house. Mike Hillis from California owns a 2-storey place in Tampaksiring (a furniture and wood carving center) and needs someone to show a potential buyer around.

Luxury apartments in Seminyak Bali
Seminyak may be too over developed for some people, but to others its still the place to be. The latest high level project is a set of luxury apartments, to be built later this year. The asking prices start at $200,000 for a one-bedroom apartment. Here’s more from the Jakarta Post.

Owning land as a ‘bule’ married to an Indonesian
Owning land and building your ‘dream home’ in Bali, is a dream for many people. Some people try it and have success, others find it a frustrating experience, others still don’t bother and simply rent. I’m in category ‘C’ for right now. A post on the Bali Expat Forum, asks about the legalities of your Indo wife owning property in Bali.

Where to build a house in Bali
If I had a pot of money and time on my hands, I might build a house in Bali. Even if I don’t, just thinking about where it would be, is a lot of fun. Riding around on my motorbike and marking spots with a GPS, I see there is no limit to the amount of scenic spots on the island, with relatively cheap land. As always, location is the real factor you have to consider, when building a house.
